The punk blog Remote Outposts has unearthed a demo tape from 2000 from one of my favorite Little Rock bands, The Stranger Steals, made up of names long time fans of local music should recognize: Alan Disaster (Smoke Up Johnny), Jeremy Brasher (Moving Front), Louisa Rook (Bloodless Cooties), Lloyd Benjamin and the late, great Victor Wiley.
The band's sole album, "The Goals of Misbehavior," came out a year later on Nate Powell's sadly defunct Harlan Records.
Check out the demo version of "Electromagnetic" below.

The Romany Rye, the California-based folk-rock quintet made up of mostly dudes from Little Rock and North Little Rock, will release a full-length this summer (the first featuring the Arkansas dudes). To tide fans over and, I imagine, to generate a little buzz during the group's run in the Rolling Stone cover contest that we told you about last week, the band's released this new song, "I Hate Myself (For Loving You)." Delta Spirit's Kelly Winrich produced it.
The Romany Rye returns to Stickyz on March 15. That's the day before the band knows if it's advanced to the second round in the Rolling Stone cover contest.
Also, on the jump, check out a 10 minute clip of the first part of a Romany Rye documentary, with pretty black and white footage of the band goofing around in Big Bear, Cali., talking dreamily about life in the band and cutting (and accidentally erasing) a new record.

The latest from one half of Suga City, Conduit's own Arkansas Bo, is called "Cup Inside a Cup" and the hook, looped throughout the track, samples a chopped and screwed bar from a Drake song: "cup inside a cup, smokin' Ghostface Killah."
Put him on the "Smoker's Club" tour with Curren$y and co. already! Who's doing laid-back, kickin' it music any better?
Preview the track and buy it on Bandcamp or iTunes. The edited version is all that's available, but the bleep's aren't that distracting.
