Re: “State to stop placing youths in Yell County detention

Exceptionalism seems to equal Situational Ethics.

When did we lose our way?

JUVENILE offenders punished this way.

JUVENILEs!

Cartoons of Superman, Capt. America and Wonder Woman must have all been a sham!

"TRUTH, JUSTICE and the AMERICAN WAY" morphed into our current cartoon hero Bart Simpson, "I didn't do it, nobody saw we do it, there's no way you can prove anything!"

Do we not have GROWNUPS that are capable of rehabilitating JUVENILES?

Hey TeaPartyHeads! PROOF Exceptionalism can't be done on the CHEAP.

$1,500 a month isn't enough to supply anything beyond "3 hots and a cot"!

I am adamantly against the Death Penalty but taking our Troubled Youths and transforming them into MONSTERS seems worse than just killing them off right from the git go!

America has lost its way, this is but more PROOF!

Re: “McDaniel appeals federal marriage ruling; objects to fee for lawyer in case

How about ONE SINGLE MARRIAGE license per citizen.

Two consenting adults qualify.

Spend it however you like but you only get one!

Re: “Stacy Hurst to head Dept. of Arkansas Heritage; Nate Smith will stay at Health Dept.

I just wonder who will get the Christmas garland contract for all the museums next year?

"FREE" consultation of best way to decorate I predict.

Way back in the '60's when Little Rock was building University Avenue, AP&L, as a civic duty blah blah blah... helped design the lighting for the new road.

AP&L determined "for safety" to line light poles with a spacing resembling a picket fence.

"For Safety" you understand!

Arab oil embargo and energy crunch of the '70's some fed flew into town to recommend energy savings.

The fed official flew in after dark and saw University Ave. from the air and 1st order of business was to remove every other light pole. (to this day one can see the cement pad with 4 bolts 1/2 way between each light pole. And a splice in the wire above where "xtry" poles HAD connected.)

Why do I suspect the operating budget for garland at museums will EXPLODE by next year?

Job Creator you understand!

A florist will have to add an additional money counter just to keep up.

Re: “One gas company remains bullish on Fayetteville shale

"quiet leasing the heart of the field at bargain prices"

Read that as fleeced dumb Arkie landowners.

Unsophisticated land owners were left to the mercy of fast talking energy speculators.

Arkansas had the "lowest of the low" rate of excise taxes on natural resources being removed AND the landowners cut was so anemic compared to surrounding states that income taxes on gas production generated little tax revenues.

So the little guy missed the mad rush and profits and now the tax payers are going to be left holding the bag for water pollution and shredded roads.

Add to that the big new schools in Quitman, Greenbrier and similar places.

Workers leaving and taking kids, plus support industry workers leaving and taking kids...

Then factor in the abandoning little industrial parks near Springhill, Damascus, Southside etc which will halt property tax payments and boom/bust empty schools.

Our elected officials could have attempted to protect citizens but instead sided with the fleecers.

Beebe, McDaniel etc...

Re: “Wendell Griffen comments on police slayings

Outlier

Maggie said a funny but ridicule indicted the cop/judge instead of defended.

14 IS THE KEY!

Steven E could easily justify 4 or 7 shots but even Steven E would probably throw up his hands for any past 10.

Police pistols and ammo are termed deadly force for a reason. Seldom would a person survive 3 or 4.

Hell shoot a cow 14 times and the meat would be so tore up most cuts would be ruined.

Re: “TGIF open line

Never Vote

Enjoyed your linked article.

A year back the right wing was blasting President Obama of breaking most of his campaign promises!

Calling him the old worn-out title of "Liar in Chief".

Now they are having conniption fits that President Obama is coming through on most!

Ha ha ha!

If the US had followed all the right wing whiners and wailers we would have COMBAT troops in Egypt, Syria, Iran and Crimea.

Probably also Gaza, North Korea plus invaded Mexico! (Mexico because they keep flooding us with the drugs WE AMERICANS DEMAND!)

Re: “Alice Walton reported as buyer of $4.5 million Noguchi table

I am just barely young enough to watch the 3rd generation curse as it begins and blossoms.

1st generation, "Look what I built!" Sam
2nd generation, "Look what I bought!" Alice
3rd generation, "Look what train wreck I have become!"

1st generation Sam built it, 2nd generation kept it going by not getting in the way and suffered but a few bits of the curse. 3rd generation is just now coming of age and discovering the angst of not having earned, built or advanced ANYTHING.

Most will envy what the heirs have but I pity what they don't. Sure they will have lovely gated communities and luxurious walled compounds. I have freedom to go about BY MYSELF outside of all walls and all compounds. Nearly zero fear of being abducted for ransom. Able to build friendships knowing friends chose me because of me, not my stuff.

The grandkids are just now getting to the age where they will venture out and of course not be able to cope with the real world.

Sort of like a Dickens novel. Tiny Tim's family had love. Scrooge had money.
