Re: “Oaklawn plans 58,000 sq. ft. racino expansion

Eric Jackson - at what point in Oaklawn's grand plan do the horses and horsemen finally get pushed completely out of the picture?

Re: “Homeland Security blamed for cooler crackdown

Over the past several years, my wife & I have had the opportunity to attend a variety of athletics events, concerts, festivals, etc. locally and in many places across the country. Our experience? The practice of searching bags before allowing entry is much, much more prevalent below the Mason-Dixon line than above it. Last summer we took a vacation where we attended 3 baseball games and one concert in four different northern cities. We were not searched once! Upon returning home...heading to the local baseball venue...you got it - searched at the gate. This has nothing to do with safety...it has everything to do with perpetuating the culture of fear that drives so many of today's popular, politically-charged agendas. Distract people with meaningless gestures and they will be oblivious to issues that truly matter.

Re: “They never laugh at Dickey-Stephens Park; action threatened over bumper sticker

I've always thought that Shelly didn't so much look like a horse as he did the cartoon camel that used to grace Camel cigarette advertising. Perhaps it's the Travs that have infringed on a logo!

Re: “UPDATE: 26 reported dead in Connecticut elementary shooting

Anyone who has ever donated one dime to the NRA or who has voted for an political candidate based on the consistency of their views with NRA dogma has the blood of these children on their hands. Congratulations! I hope you feel really good about yourself!

Spirit does, indeed, work for the National Park Service.....in Seattle!

Re: “It's official: German studies program at UALR kaput

Sad. But, hey, at least they didn't eliminate programs such as sports management, fashion merchandising, creative basket weaving, or any of the other bastions of modern-day higher education that keep money rolling in and jocks eligible. BTW - "Rate My Professors", like most other forums for public comment, tends to get disproportionate use by those with an axe to grind.
