Just an aging Gen-X'er living in rural redneck Southeast Arkansas clinging to my love for the country life but also a diverse culture.

Re: “Fayetteville City Clerk's office certifies signatures — civil rights ordinance will go to a public vote

You know that many of those petitions were placed in churches and members "encouraged" to "stand in the gap" against Teh Gay. Back when Jerry Cox put his adoption act on the ballot, over half of the signatures on petitions in Lincoln County were from one church (a well-known cult).

Re: “How the South became dead red

"We didn't leave the Democrat Party, the Democrat Party left us..."

That is the money quote by the typical John Bircher and/or current teabaggers whom were in the south, usually a Democrat because of tradition and culture.

Nixon's Southern Strategy and the rise of the modern Religious Right and Reagan's 1980 election helped to start the shift. There were always liberals in the Democratic party, but there were also a small group of moderate to liberal folks the Republican party. It took Arkansas a bit longer to go red (mostly because of Bumpers, (David) Pryor, and Clinton) but the Chickenshit Conservative Democrats finally started coming out of the closet as Republicans following the election of Obama. A former County Judge in Southeast Arkansas was spotted at the last Grady Fish Fry wearing Tom Cotton and Asa! stickers. When I asked him, why he didn't run as a Republican in his last election, he said to the effect that he couldn't get elected as a Republican.

Re: “Democrat goes after Jason Rapert on his record

Rapert is dangerous for his Senatorial district, and dangerous for Arkansas.

Re: “New poll: 'GOP leads ticket in Arkansas'

Part of the problem that hasn't been acknowledged is that the Arkansas Democratic Party clings to favoring "GOP Lite"/Bluedog/Conservative Democrat candidates over progressive candidates so a small group of cisgender, white, straight males won't wet their pants over "gun grabbing" or "Teh Gay". Candidates such as Mike Ross dampens the enthusiasm of younger voters whom don't see much substantive policy differences from Asa!

Re: “Little Rock City Board to discuss police radio encryption

With Police Radio traffic now encrypted in Lil' Rock, Radio Shack already facing bankruptcy lost sales of one of the few desirable unique products (radio scanners) it still carries as a brick and mortar retailer.

(cellphones are a dime-a-dozen from anywhere on the other hand....)

Reason #278 that Arkansas can't have nice things.
