Just an aging Gen-X'er living in rural redneck Southeast Arkansas clinging to my love for the country life but also a diverse culture.

Re: “Pryor joins other red-state Democrats pushing Obama to approve Keystone pipeline

Pryor just crossed the Rubicon with this move.

Re: “Let's make a massive Spotify playlist of the best Arkansas music

I use Spotify but it has its issues, notably some artists are missing and often certain albums are missing.

Sadly, outside of the (ever changing) block programming of KABF there is no home for indie/emerging music on the Central AR and vicinity FM airwaves. Thankfully, I found two terrestrial public radio stations of note that play such music: KCMP/The Current, the third service of Minnesota Public Radio; and WNRN from Virginia. Both stations are on the Tune In smartphone radio app.

Re: “Pryor leads Cotton in Talk Business poll; Democratic Party chairman calls Cotton "most overrated Senate candidate in country"

Honestly, there isn't much difference between Hillary (Clinton), and Obama: both are centrist Democrats. However, add some sour grapes, plus some latent racism and voila! The rise of the Third Wave of Arkansas Republicanism, with a distinctive TEA flavor.

As for Pryor, he needs to embrace his Democratic base and not his moderate Republican urges if he wants a successful reelection bid.

Re: “The weather watch open line

Don't you mean kaRn Marcy?

Those whom live by the corporate radio sword will be fired by the same corporate radio sword. I hate that Bob Steel and Jack Heinritz were 86'd but have no feelings about conservative jobber Elswick shown the door. I seldom if ever listened to kaRn because of its RW lineup.

Maybe he can land with a gig on some rural Right Wing talk station in between Alex Jones and colon-cleansing infomercials. Meanwhile kaRn today piped in some D-List jobber from DC and he was taking calls and strangly the callers had higher quality audio than the VOIP setup that kaRn/Cumulus was employing.

Another sign of slow death of commercial terrestrial radio. And good riddance Elswick.

Re: “Gay marriage in Little Rock 40 years ago

One of the things that caused me to have a "Road To Damascus" moment concerning LGBT issues was meeting a long-time gay couple in my former apartment complex. They were normal people trying to make a go of life and had been together 25+ years at the time. Nothing like the stereotypes and tropes that I had been spoon-fed during years in Fundamentalist Christianity. I was going through my second divorce and examining my own issues involving gender.

Eventually I moved back to my hometown about a decade ago and while meeting another generation of socially conservative folks, I begin noticing lesbian, gay folk and over time even found out that there were trans* folk also. Yes even in this dry county of a town where one can't swing a dead cat without hitting a church building.

Re: “Let's talk about the Travs' new swamp possum mascot

Greg, you need to come down to south Arkansas...there are swamps down there. And don't forget the FB of the local TV pages, those turn into swamps quickly after a story involving controversial subjects.
