Re: “Sway

I had a great time at Sway. The dance floor wasn't too crowded and they played current music along with a few oldies but goodies mixed in.

Re: “Sen. Jason Rapert reacts to Beverly Carter's death with proposal to abolish parole in Arkansas

Perplexed, you and I both know why this case got so much attention. She was a pretty blonde and wasn't she middle or upper middle class?

There's always justice for those crimes.

Had she been a Black woman who was working her way up in the real estate field...eh. She's just another missing Black woman. No one gives a sh** about them.

Also, look at all the cops who get away with shooting unarmed Black people. Somehow cops can manage to not shoot or not kill white suspects but Black people are suspect simply because they are Black.

Ever see that t-shirt with a KKK member holding up a baby and the caption reads,"Future police officer"? That's exactly how I feel about all the pigs.

Re: “Sen. Jason Rapert reacts to Beverly Carter's death with proposal to abolish parole in Arkansas

*sigh*
Just as many other states are trying to move away from crowding prisons (of course to save money and not because they care about reuniting families) this dummy wants to increase the burden of prisons on the state.

Also, I'm not in support of mandating treatment. Not every person who uses/abuses drugs is an addict. If they can go to work, take care of themselves and/or their family, etc. why is it any of my business what substance you choose to ingest?

Legalize marijuana. Let out all the folks convicted of marijuana-related crimes.
Let our drug policy be informed by SCIENCE and not the emotions of the public and the politicians.
Our "criminal 'justice'" policy should also be informed by evidence-based practices. Sex offender registries are dumb. Most folks who were sexually abused or sexually assaulted KNEW the person who assaulted them. Instead of being worried about the person on the sex offender registry who lives a few houses down, start worrying about your own family members and take care of that mess FIRST.

That Rapert sure is a class act-trying to capitalize on a tragedy. Shameful.

Re: “Visionary Arkansans 2014

My hat off to David Couch.
I moved to Illinois and it disgusts me that Illinois does not allow binding resolutions to be put on the ballot. I hope I am remembering/understanding correctly.
Ex: A group can collect signatures to put an issue on the ballot and even if 60% or say 80% of the people approved the issue, the Illinois legislature doesn't have to enforce the new law.

This is great for issues like say gay marriage if the people DON'T want it, the legislature can pass same-sex marriage anyway.

On the issue of say raising the minimum wage, allowing recreational marijuana, etc....it's not such a great idea. The people are at the mercy of crooked/corrupt legislators.

I'm proud of my home state of Arkansas in many ways. No state is perfect though.

Wishing my home state the absolute best and I will forever consider Arkansas home.

Re: “The roots of Little Rock's segregated neighborhoods

American Apartheid is a great book on racial income inequality and how racial segregation is responsible.

Re: “Study touts economic benefit of expanding alcohol sales

Legalizing marijuana cuts down on prison costs, costs of police, drunk driving, etc.

I can't see anything positive in trying to expand the availability of alcohol given the public health consequences of alcohol consumption and making it easier to obtain alcohol.

Re: “The faces of health care expansion in Arkansas

Health care should be a right in this country. The United States has the financial resources to ensure a world-class single payer health care system. All of our Congress critters who are against this idea should be voted out with the quickness.
