Re: “Want to help the library? Don't claim a refund of contested tax

I just read the "Personal Property Settlement" and fiveoclocksomewhere is correct, the attorneys' 15 per cent is from the total "Common Fund". So I would recommend returning the letter with the No option so CALS does not have to pay the attorneys for trying to contact you again.

Thank you, Max.

When I got the letter, my first thought was what do I need to do to let the library keep the money with no cut for the attorneys.

Re: “Bill allows outside nonprofit to operate school district taken over by state

Taxation without representation is exactly what I call it. This is outrageous.

Re: “Local control, fundamental rights and Bob Ballinger

The January 15, 2015 edition of the Madison Country Record has an article about Ballinger and the bank's efforts to foreclose on his home for the second time in two years, but it is behind a paywall:

Re: “Record number of presidential scholar nominees at Central High

While I would like to have seen other LRSD high schools represented, my rough calculations show that LRSD had more than five times the number chosen for the program than you would statistically expect from a district its size. I notice that the New Orleans "miracle" only produced eight nominees from a much larger school district. Even in Little Rock, Central had 1.5 times as many as the four private schools represented, which probably have about the same total number of students as Central (more if you include Mount Saint Mary with Catholic).

Re: “Thirty-four years of Readers Choice

EY, I remember the tapas place in Breckenridge. I think its name was Tapas. It was owned by Jerry Barakat's ex-wife Terri and the food was wonderful. My wife and I were regulars there. It was our first exposure to tapas, but far from our last.

Re: “UPDATE: The best judges nursing homes can elect

The first appearance of the quote appears to be from a syndicated column in 1937, crediting the remark to a powerful Canadian-British media magnate and politician and subsequently has been linked to Churchill, George Bernard Shaw, Groucho Marx and other famous men. This web site concludes that it "began as a fictional tale that was intended to be humorous with an edge of antagonism."
