Re: “Bruno's Italian Bistro

This is the place that introduced pizza to Arkansas. Bruno had to teach people how to pronounce "pizza" back in the day (I'm talking 1940s here). This pie is the real deal. Neapolitan style pizza, the way it was intended, in the style of Naples, Italy the birthplace of pizza. Try the sausage pizza, they make it by hand daily--wonderful. The other Italian dishes are authentic as well, save for the toasted ravioli. Good stuff nonetheless.

Re: “UALR reconsidering its new residency requirement for freshmen

Priority #1 at UALR should be beefing up security. After talking to recent students there, tales of muggings and laptop theft en route to class seem to be the norm, not the exception these days. Imaging hiking to class in fear of having your laptop taken. College is stressful enough without that. I have serious hesitations about sending my kids there until that issue is taken care of.

There is no reason UALR shouldn't be a respectable University, but fear and learning don't mix.

Re: “Eagle watching at 2nd and Victory

A friend of mine recently took great close-ups of bald eagles in a tree at the NLR boat ramp by the I-30 bridge downtown. I also spied a pair last Fall in a tree at eye level while driving across the White River on I-40 East. It seems the birds are making a genuine come-back!

Re: “The quiet initiative — the push for medical marijuana

I've tried marijuana maybe 10 times. I drink beer/wine occasionally.

How many of you have ever heard of a guy who smoked too much marijuana, and then went home and beat his wife and kids? How many of you have ever heard of a DWHigh?

Me either. Not saying it CAN'T happen, but I believe--Nothing's impossible, just highly unlikely.

There isn't a single peer-reviewed study that shows marijuana to be hazardous to one's health. "Gateway drug?" Ha. I can't think of a anyone I know who didn't try alcohol before marijuana. Blame a person's character regarding drug abuse before blaming marijuana.

Let's tax the snot out of it, making it safe and controlled for those who use it and eliminate much of the violence encroaching our border to the South in the process.

Re: “Mike Huckabee lie about Obama? We report, you decide

Wow, a lying sack of shit is one thing.

A lying sack of shit that does so while hiding behind the bible is FAR, FAR WORSE.

Re: “Police disciplinary files open, attorney general says

If true, (KKK meeting attendance) this "officer" needs to be fired. Period. Little Rock is already best known as a town with infamously bad race relations. He also should be prosecuted for clear abuse of police authority.

We CAN NOT afford, nor need this kind of attention. We are trying to attract industry here, aren't we? Here's a novel idea, ACT LIKE IT!

Re: “Pour on the coal

Interesting comment. This weekend I saw a photo of a man taking food from (ironically) a 7-11 in quake stricken Japan. Why isn't there any "looting"? Because the Japanese recognize that survival is not a crime. Reality here is that a store with flood damaged merchandise will be unable to resell those items anyway.

Here in the South, when we see photos of black people taking food under the same circumstances, we call them looters. Never mind that there are photos of white people doing same. http://pages.stern.nyu.edu/~amistry/blog/a…

Re: “The Broadway Bridge: repair or replace

Funny how funding showed right up for the Big Dam Bridge, and it's new sister project just upriver. As a cycling enthusiast, I appreciate the BDB, but I still recognize pork when I see it.

The Broadway Bridge is a true need, and also an icon of Central Arkansas.

It would be a real shame to do a half-ass patch job on a signature structure, it is in clear view from the I-30 bridge, the most traveled roadway in the state. The biggest flaw in Government in the US is the tragic tendency for short-term solutions. Whatever "solution" is decided on, we will live with the results for many decades.
