So, Greenwood = Iraq?
I worked for those guys in NWA for 4.5 miserable years, and can tell you that in the bloodletting prior to and including the merger that vomited up NAN, the things were horribly mismanaged, and epicenters of cronyism and "good 'ol boy" leadership. The product was never as important as protecting those who had cush jobs and tenure. If you'll look closely before the next heads roll, the people there consist mostly of these broad groups:
1) management that has been there forever and has no desire or ability to move up;
2) dedicated staffers who have been there a long time, have been thwarted in their ability to move up, and are invested in the work and the community and thus stuck; and
3) noobs who don't have a lot of experience and therefore think that this ish is normal of all print media operations.
You've got someone on staff at this very moment who experienced this scene firsthand, and had the talent to get out.
I'm thinking Redford as Long, guys.
Nocera column: Terrifying. Repression has taken root, friends. You might want to make sure you have made yourself aware of all the exit routes.
When do we get the poll tax put back in? Koch suckers.
Well, at least now I don't have to go to Oaklawn or ever spend a dime in that cracker-ass town.
Re: “UPDATE: Nate Bell shoots from lip on Boston violence; Speaker Carter apologizes for him; Bell apologizes for 'timing'”
I moved to Boston from NWA in November. A lot of neat things here, but sometimes I really miss Arkansas. Then some asswipe like this guy reminds me of the worst the state has to offer, and I think of Liz Warren and don't miss it any more.
As I write, choppers are circling; the epicenter in Watertown is two minutes away. Come on up and help out, Congressman Jackass.
No offense, y'all. The clean air and water and the pockets of progressivism... But Nate Bell is scum, and there's too many of those types back there...
