And for the record, this hog farm should be shut down. Only an idiot would have allowed it there. Let's keep the focus on hog crap, not saving the world from Big Oil and the Illuminati.
Andy, I think Willie's point runs something like this:
Did you post from a phone/iPad/PC made completely without oil or it's byproducts? Did this wonderful unit you have get shipped to you in a solar-powered truck (constructed only of non-petroleum-based parts in a non-petroleum fueled plant)? Are you powering your device with bicycle energy or solar panels made and delivered in the same non-petroleum-based way? Did you pick an ISP that is carbon free? Etc.
You can spew all you want, but you don't want to see a world without oil in the short run. And far from keeping alternative energy sources from blooming, we've spent millions of collectivist dollars on AE sources and they simply are not yet cost-competitive (and while sunlight may be environmentally friendly, the manufacture of those panels may not be so environmentally benign).
Sadly, people see black helicopters on the left as much as the right.
Drew, you've never won an election, have some questionable ethics issues of your own, and have possibly never understood how to make any real money legitimately. So I'm not sure you're the best arbiter of what's needed here. And Martha is a person without a moral centerboard who is "good" if that means never killed anyone or stolen at knifepoint. But she potentially cost the taxpayers tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars shaking down a broker for <$50K for herself, so let's please *don't* jump to her being some sort of victim (e.g passively "caught up" in something not of her direct making and manufacture).
Might be a good place for the newly formed public-corruption task force to nose around...
DBI, someone took exception here yesterday over "blaming" her activities on her pay. And truth is folks who are theives will steal at any level. But I think you're spot on for a couple of reasons. Who outside of gov't is investing $4B for $50K/year? If any of us had $4B we wouldn't trust it to a $50K/employee. It's also notable that she was apparently bought for only $12-15K/year. Would have been cheaper for everyone if we had just paid $75K/year and a LR housing allowance. (The Gov. does at least get housing. And $75K plus housindg still wouldn't hire a competent fund manager in the private sector.)
Again, I don't hear you excusing her and I'm certainly not. But we have got to get out of thinking our constitutional officers should make less than a good night foreman in a rural county between Walnut Ridge and Smackover.
mg, I'm not sure even you Dems are overly at fault for this. It was widely known that Nick Wilson was unethical. Dems were afraid to cross him. So when he crossed over to illegal you can hang that on Dems in general. But as far as I know Martha was generally known only for being dimwitted and harsh. (Interesting how all these staffers and former staffers suddenly come clean, but I don't think they were talking during the last primary.)
People stray. It doesn't make the rest of us responsible. Martha did what she did and so did CHS2. That's their crime, not yours nor ours.
Re: “Supreme Court says 1979 Cornish hen theft makes sheriff ineligible to serve”
The "plain language" of the Constitution includes the word "infamous". I'm not sure how many Cornish hens Kenny Cassill stole over 30 years ago, but I think Hoofman's DWI's are more "infamous" than the hen heist I had never heard of 'til now.
