Bad move for UALR. Giving up real estate on a campus that is landlocked.
I've never understood the fascination that the AR Times has with the glorification of gang violence in Little Rock. It was ugly, its still ugly, and they love it when you give them air time. This is a story that doesn't need to be told over and over again.
Memphis continues to focus on the important things like monuments and the remains of dead generals, while its infrastructure, public schools, and city government crumble.
Im not sure if it would be an improvement or not. The AAA is already pretty suspect in multiple areas...
And this article is a classic example of why the Arkansas Times remains a blog and not journalism. However, I guess the trend in journalism is to condemn those who don't think like you do. For those saying "the picture really nails the point home", you ever been up and close with the editor of the Arkansas Times? He isn't a small japanese woman. So considering that you won't support Chickfila because they don't like gays, your argument is moot because you are pointing your finger and laughing at heavy set people who eat Chickfila. Liberal and tolerant except against obese people who each fried chicken sandwiches. Brilliant.
There is no valid argument as to why the LRSD should not be taken over. If you are against it, what would you do to keep the LRSD from free falling?
LRSD school board has been dysfunctional for a LONG time. How many schools are listed as performing below academic standards? The elementary schools seem to do fine, but once in middle school, it all goes to hell. The only viable HS is Central, and even that is suspect. There is a school within the school (namely the AP program) that is the only reason Central isn't below grade. The only parents who send their kids to LRSD in middle school through high school are the ones who cannot afford private school or have no other options. The Arkansas Times can claim conspiracy theory on charter schools or whatever (Hussman and his evil cronies, sounds like AR times still has an axe to grind via the newspaper wars), but the fact is that LRSD is imploding. Look north of the river, over in Saline County, Cabot, and all the private options in Little Rock. The reason those schools are thriving is because there are no good options in the LRSD. What do you think is going to happen when they lose all the desegregation money?
