Re: “Governors get encouragement on work rules for Medicaid

The work provision is equivalent to spending six pages of the AHCA to deny Medicaid benefits to lottery winners.

"Only 13 percent of adults covered by Medicaids expansion are able-bodied and not working, in school, or seeking work. Of that small group, three-quarters report they are not working in order to care for family members and the rest report other reasons, like being laid off."

Re: “Flyover country gets its thanks in Republican health plan

"In other words, maybe this looks like amateur hour because it is. Ryan isnt a skilled politician inexplicably losing his touch, hes a con artist who started to believe his own con; Republicans didnt hammer out a workable plan because there is no such plan, and anyway they have no idea what that would involve."

Re: “Flyover country gets its thanks in Republican health plan

I wonder how many people know that 2 out of 3 nursing home residents in Arkansas are covered by Medicaid? And how many are prepared to take care of their parents or grandparents at home if the Republican Medicaid cuts become law?

Re: “Black college presidents meet The Real Donald Trump

Charlie Pierce reacting to DeVos: "After reading the statement, I dropped by the bungalow in which resides Friend of the Blog Clio, Muse of History, also known by her Marvel superhero identity, The Proclaimer (!). After kicking aside several empty fifths of Virginia Gentleman, and taking care not to roll an ankle on one of the empty prescription medicine bottles, I found her on the couch. I put a mirror under her nose and it clouded up. So I guess she's going to make it through again."

Re: “A presidential open line

From Steve Benen:

Because Trump complained bitterly for years about President Obama's golfing, the Republican's aides are a little touchy about the subject, to the point that they've begun shading the truth a bit. Politico reported this afternoon:

After initially saying Trump had only played a few holes, the White House reversed itself Monday after professional golfer Rory McIlroy posted on his website that he had played 18 holes with the president.

"As stated yesterday the President played golf. He intended to play a few holes and decided to play longer," White House spokesperson Sarah Sanders said Monday.

Maybe something like this:

"The actual incident, police say, occurred because Walker Daughetry got it into his head that border-crossers were inside the RV that Edwin and his wife were in, in an attempt to kidnap them. Instead of announcing himself, Walker allegedly tried opening the RV, the local CBS news channel reports, prompting Roberts to fire a shot at the door."

Re: “Trump ventures into fake news as he decries it

"Sweden does indeed have far more reported cases of sexual assault than any other country. But its not because Swedes of any colour are very criminal. Its because theyre very feminist. In 2005, Swedens Social Democratic government introduced a new sex-crime law with the worlds most expansive definition of rape. Imagine, for example, if your boss rubbed against you in an unwanted way at work once a week for a year. In Canada, this would potentially be a case of sexual assault. Under Germanys more limited laws, it would be zero cases. In Sweden, it would be tallied as 52 separate cases of rape."
