  • The Governor's Culinary Challenge: Who made the grade?

At the Governor's Culinary Challenge, a few chefs really brought their proverbial A-game, doling out some truly spectacular bites, but it was clear that a few of these culinary heavy-weights should rethink their strategy for next year. Here’s our breakdown of who made the grade and who fell a bit flat.

Re: “Food Feedback Friday: getting out and coming up

Meant to mention that we had pretty much given up on Lulav. Maybe this is a wake up call???

Re: “Food Feedback Friday: getting out and coming up

Ferneau denied the Gar Hole idea, I think.

Baja Grill brought back the Greek taco special this week. It was a hit. My fav is their shrimp quesadilla so I tend to always order it. It's enough for the two of us to share.

Just had lunch at Pressroom in Bentonville. The excellent corn chowder was so welcomed on this wintertime May day. My arugula-roasted beet salad was really tasty.

Hate we are missing the FB Bake Sale and Hog Roast but trust that you will share all about those.

Re: “Feel like praying? Send Huck some bucks

Jump on Huck of you want, but hooking it to NDP is tacky. You can do better.

Re: “Food Feedback Friday: the popping out of Pulaski edition

T: I just never got to the Fayetteville list - thought I had used up more space than I probably should have already. It was just nice to venture our of LR:) We really like Theo's - more often the one in Rogers just because it is closer. Love, love Pesto Cafe -- I can't seem to break away from that incredible Pesto Pasta. Herman's steak is good, but I prefer Ruth's Chris. There are a couple of new sandwich places out on Wedington that are next to one another - both are good - Burger Patti's and The Green Submarine. If you've not been to Hammontree's, it is a definite go. I really like their edamame hummus, salads and grilled sandwiches. Not a big fan of their soups but others like them. Eureka Pizza is better than most so give it a try. Bordino's is a venerable favorite - can't go wrong there.

And then there are the chains - some better than others, of course.

We should probably do a whole Friday for just areas in NWA.

Rogers: You must try The Green Bean - lunch only. Homemade breads, soups and delicious salads. Bliss Cupcake has recently opened a store on Promenade close to Five Guys, Qdoba, etc.

LR to Memphis: detour by way of Keo and eat lunch at Charlotte's Eats and Sweets - really tasty pies. There's Papa Joe's in Hummoke for decent home cooking and the Sportsman in Stuttgart for burgers. We weren't too impressed with Who Dat's - perhaps we should try it again.

LR to Dallas - we just wait on Dallas:) First stop will usually be Eatzi's -- love it!

It's somebody else's turn:)

Re: “Food Feedback Friday: the popping out of Pulaski edition

Rogers: I commented before but don't know where it went. We ate at a new place yesterday on 2nd St that was incredibly good - Heirloom Food and gifts. The chef/owner, Jenn, offers a menu of natural, vegan and vegetarian dishes that will please just about any palate. It is very small and only open Tu-Sat for lunch, but it is a definite GO! I had the arugula-quinoa salad - I almost licked my plate. Hubby had the breakfast poutine - full of flavor as well. We shared a pumpkin-tomato bisque that was out of this world. Can you tell I like this place? It's not fine dining but you can't get finer food. Kid/family friendly. I also like that the bread basket that was served had fresh breads from the Rogers Farmers Market just a couple of blocks away. Good community support. This place is a definite keeper and a must to try.

Re: “Finally, biscuits and gravy to believe in...

Technically, it is Saturday, but we ate at a new place in Rogers today at lunch-Heirloom Food and Gifts- on 2nd Street. It focuses on natural, organic, vegan and vegetarian dishes. It was sooooo good that we were tempted to lick our plates. Hubby had the breakfast poutine, a special, while I had the arugula-quinoa salad. We shared a bowl of pumpkin-tomato bisque. All were really, really good. I haven't been this impressed with a place in quite awhile. Stop by and give it a try. Chef/owner Jenn will make it worth your while. It is open for lunch only Tu- Sat. Going back very soon!
