Re: “Dumas: The corporate takeover of Arkansas and its new debt burden

Let's not forget that the public is also being held financially responsible for training the workforce for these same corporations.

Re: “Caitlyn Jenner debuts on cover of Vanity Fair

Norma, fashion and media were both different back in the day, too. Hollywood was there, of course, and probably even more influential than it is today. And look how well Renee Richards has aged! Even without Kris Jenner.

Is there some sort of genetic connection going on between the collision of athletics and sexuality? Is it just a coincidence that sticks out because the Hollywod/media connection, or is there something more there?

Re: “In the Name of the Lord — Sunday's open line

Steven, your use of "and yet..." followed by stating that there are people incorrectly stating that certain groups of people are "not worse off" carries all kinds of implications. The implication is that people of color should be happy with the progress that's been made and that they should quit dividing the country because they won't accept the gains that have been realized. It's not an assumption. It may not be what you meant to say, but the words are there.

Re: “Caitlyn Jenner debuts on cover of Vanity Fair

When I saw the picture - without knowing who it was - my first reaction was 'how pretty!' Had to look a second time to see that, yes, Caitlyn used to be someone named Bruce. But then, Annie Leibovitz is as good a photographer as any. And Ms. Jenner has all the resources in the world to help with her transition. Still, she is taking her transition public, and that will make it easier for those without her resources to be themselves.

You go, girl!

Re: “Report: Witness differs with former state trooper on report of Duggar molestation

So the defense boils down to all the important people around Josh Duggar knew what he had done and we banded together to protect him from those bad little girls and the media so there was no need to get the authorities involved.

Re: “In the Name of the Lord — Sunday's open line

And yet, if you are a person of color, you are demonstrably better off now than you were 30 years ago.

*******

So are gay people, but that does not mean that society accepts/treats either of these groups with equality and justice. Or that 'better off' is good enough. Seems to be good enough for you, though. Guess that makes you special, huh?

Re: “Tom Cotton goes both ways on government handouts

I went up there, I said, "Shrink, I want to kill. I want to kill! I want to see
Blood and gore and guts and veins in my teeth! Eat dead, burnt bodies! I
Mean: Kill. Kill!"

And I started jumpin' up and down, yellin' "KILL! KILL!" and he started
Jumpin' up and down with me, and we was both jumpin' up and down, yellin',
"KILL! KILL! KILL! KILL!" and the sergeant came over, pinned a medal on me,
Sent me down the hall, said "You're our boy".

And it made me feel good.
