  • New Juanita's owners promise bigger, better concerts

Juanita’s, the venerable Tex-Mex restaurant and live music venue, has new owners. Four years after they purchased the restaurant and club, Joe Cates and Jim O’Brien have sold it to Erin Hurley, Trey Jordan, Reed Lewallen, Bill Puckett and James Snyder. The new group takes ownership of the space at 614 President Clinton Ave. Aug. 1. Upgrading the type of concerts the club hosts is one of the new group’s top priorities, according to Lewallen.

Re: “Little Rock Horror Picture Show to screen 'Metropolis' with live score

2014 is going to be "the year" for Arkansas bands. I can feel it. This sounds like a terrific event & the Ron Robinson Theater is gorgeous.

Re: “Candidates filing despite ice; Rapert gets a challenger in Conway

Awesome, Rapert is a fine example of what's wrong with Arkansas. A dangerous idiot.

Re: “Arkansas Family Council questions Blue Cross coverage of legally married same-sex couples; makes it an issue in Obamacare debate

Family Council (or "Family Cancel" as I like to call it) needs to be shut down completely. They get more media attention than they ever deserve & - somehow - ignorant Lemmings seem to believe every word they say. They embarrass my Christian friends. They constantly spread fear, lies & misinformation.
They're essentially a hate group disguised as loving Christians. What WOULD Jesus do? NOT what they do! They pick, choose & manipulate bible verses to their financial & political wellbeing. They are ignorant, greedy, oppressive businessmen. They don't want equality. They're against medicinal cannabis. They support wasteful spending on "the war on drugs". They are against all abortion (even rape/incest victims) yet they don't want to help out poor families after the precious baby is born. They're against individual rights. Race nor sexual orientation should ever be a factor for our equal rights. They simply hamper our progress of a forward thinking modern loving & happy society. I know gay Christians. I know Gay Atheist that are way more giving, loving and/or compassionate AND more productive as a working member of society than many Christians. You don't need an ancient text to tell you how to be a decent human being. It's just blind entitlement for any one religion to even think like that. Our forefathers knew to keep our freedom of religion & to keep a separation of church & state. Heck, George Washington & Thomas Jefferson even grew Hemp/Cannabis! It's all beyond hypocritical. If there is a Hell, Family Council will be roasting s'mores there when they die. If there's a Hell on earth they are the people causing it. I'm so sick of them I could scream. I have gay friends & family. I bet if every gay person in Arkansas went on strike you'd see a halt of most essential services you take for granted on a daily basis. I have Crohn's Disease. Cannabis has been scientifically proven to help cure. I'm a veteran of the Army & Navy. I'm a musician, actor & have a BSN, RN. I have over 20 years medical experience. I have traveled the US & many parts of this world. I have sat quietly in our little Red Bible Belt Buckle of a state for 40 years & I refuse to do it any longer. We need to change the entire thinking in my home state. The Natural State. I was born in Little Rock in 1972. This was just two years before marijuana was scientifically proven to have helped with cancer; However, our fine leaders quickly covered up that little piece of information. Legalizing marijuana would bring jobs & millions of tax dollars (& tourism) into this state AND decrease thousands of dollars in what we're paying into our prison systems. We could use that tax money to improve our schools that are in dire need of restructuring. We could pay for all psych/mental Health & drug addiction patients. We could pay our teachers, nurses, EMTs, Technicians, paramedics, EMTs, police & firefighters more. We could improve state parks & roads. We could better our public transportation system & restore historic sights & museums. Did you know it takes more money per year to house a prisoner in Arkansas than the average Arkansan even makes?! Many of these "criminals" are in there for simple possession of marijuana. Did you know a teacher in Arkansas starts off making less than a prison guard? I recommend everyone read The New Jim Crow for more of the truth on that matter (if you can handle the truth). Also, Senator Jason Rapert & Mike Huckabee need to be shut down along with Family Council. They are not about family & they are too ignorant to council their way out of a wet paper sack. But, I'm not bitter.
