I'm a little late jumping in but wanted to give my condolences to eLwood. Lucky sure seemed like a sweet pup! I wanted to share this poem. It was somehow very comforting to me when we lost our two dogs only a few months apart.
Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there, I did not die.
-Mary Elizabeth Frye
I truly believe our four legged "furbabies" as I refer to them, never truly leave us. The conditional love we receive from them and the memories stay with us always!
DBI, do you mind if I share your comment on my FB page? I will list your screenname and the link to this page. It is such a good comment (as all your commentary is) and sums up exactly how I feel!
Blackwhitegray, do you remember how much the 70's model Bronco and the built International went for?
Saline, I will need to double check this but I am pretty certain that Dr. Nathanson's "film" The silent scream was later proved to be a complete fake. Just thought you would like to know.
Re: “David Koon: At the Obama inaugural”
Wow, wonderful article that brought tears to my eyes. I will never forget my first visit to D.C. I was in 7th grade. It was a school sponsored trip. I wanted to go so badly but I came from a family that was definitely not in the 1% or even middle class. My solution? I crafted homemade pot holders, etc to sell door to door in my neighborhood. Of course, I didn't raise enough money that year (6th grade). LOL! The next year my school held an essay competition and the winner won a paid spot on the school trip to D.C. Topic: The importance of American history. Oh I was so determined to write the best essay ever as I really wanted to go to D.C. This girl won and I will never forget that trip! Even at that young of an age I was in awe of the history and importance of what I was able to see and experience. 24 years later and the memories still make me smile! I think it was that time in my life that I began to fall in love with history. Now I long to go back! I am pregnant with our first child and cannot wait until he/she is old enough for a family trip to D.C.
