Re: “Gov. Beebe says he'll appoint treasurer soon

The D-R balance of constitutional officers is at issue, which means every County's election commission composition.

Re: “An umpire for judicial elections

If they are going to eliminate a run-off or have a run-off on the normal June schedule, then why leave judicial elections in May? They should absolutely be moved to November, when more voters vote and more issues/races are on the ballot. It makes no sense to label judicial elections as non-partisan, but then ask the candidates to campaign during the primary season when the likely voters are the most partisan out there. The candidates must then campaign at the most partisan of events and endure very partisan questions from leaders of the parties themselves. It's inconsistent with the notion of non-partisan judicial elections. If this committee is truly interested in electing judges, then it should be interested in moving them to the "real election" in November.

Re: “Can Martha Shoffner survive?

Dear Joe, you clearly don't know Mac if you would ask that question. Mac would have made us proud, not embarrassed. We can only hope he'll run for office again some day.

He worked for the Legislature. They've lost two employees in recent weeks under very tragic circumstances. I hope legislators will rally around their families and help them financially.

Re: “Judge: Plans no complaint against Altes

I wish the Ethics Commission followed its own rules. Nothing in the rules requires a notarized complaint, just one signed under penalty of perjury. Very different legally speaking, and the additional burden of finding a notary likely has a deterrent effect on the average citizen. But the Commission doesn't know the difference or doesn't care. They send it back and completely ignore the complaint, regardless of merit, if not notarized. That makes me wonder, does the Ethics Commission really care about ethics?

Re: “The law according to Mary Ann Gunn

I'm told that she honored at least one drug court participant's request not to be televised: Matt Jones.

Wonder if they complied with the federal WARN Act? Seems these workers are entitled to more notice or severance pay. http://www.doleta.gov/programs/factsht/war…
