Razorblade; your type is exactly who we encountered last night "outside" the event (we didn't attempt to crash the actually party and didn't get "thrown out on our collective butts" haha (Just exercised our right to occupy public space and speak our mind). Atleast half us protesting are independents, not democrats or Obama-suporters (which is normally the other thing we get accused of most often (besides being on foodstamps ;) Yet, you still ask "Why do democrats so hate successful people who work for their perks rather than live on mail money?" ???? Surely you are not ignorantly suggesting this describes all who disagree with republicans. Those protesting, including myself, all have jobs, are successful and NOT on welfare; four college students, a community organizer, and a veteran. Many of us disagree with Huckabee and the republican party's stance on issues as well as $$$ influencing politics through PACs (like Huckabee was doing for his HuckPAC to funnel funds to republican candidates in our state last night). Occupiers have also protested Obama's campaign headquarters in NLR over issues too in the past, but guess you'd find a way to disagree with that too.
They have been protesting the events in Canada but this particular protest was aimed at banks in our country (specifically those who got huge bailouts while the American public got sold out).
Such an amazing observation Nimtoad! And I agree "radical centrist," it'd it be such a better world if those hippies would just get a life and quit trying to better the world for the rest of us blind, ignorant fools. Ha.
I must interject; what you all have missed was...the point. First, there were 12 protesters, as if the numbers really matter. The bigger issue is why didn't you JOIN them?!! I dont care if there's one brave soul protesting and bringing awareness to societies ills, I'd appreciate it at the very least, if not thank them & perhaps even consider what I could do to help as well...not waste time concerned with giving a useless blog report on the number of citizens effecting change.
What you failed to see or maybe mention was the more important issue (and to be fair you're not the only one) as to what they were actually doing there today! Maybe the LRPD officer & undercover detective as well as two federal security officers and multiple private security detail casing the area for just these dozen or so peaceful, concerned citzens is a little unusual & cause for reaction. You probably missed the many people who came by thanking them for taking a stand as well.
Also, have you any clue how much time & effort it takes just to plan the arrival of a caravan of strangers into your city w/ food, housing & the organizing of a protest?!! I know, I know, they are all just lazy & worthless...though I have to wonder whether people like you even spend as much time in a month as these occupiers spend in a day trying to effect change. So glad that group of visitors to this city got such a great reception from fellow citizens like yourself. Wake up!
Thanks for your useless contribution to bettering society today. Fail.
Nimrod, I mean Nimtoad, if you ever get close to even thinking you'll have 7+ people gathering to protest, I'm positive these guys will have your back & be glad to join. Then you could have 15+!!!
Imagine.
It's a step in the right direction thanks to the group of dedicated, citizen volunteers trying to do something about it. I agree it needs to go further, but it's start. We're having a hard enough time attempting to do this crap.
Bryant would of course have one of these (military equipment for the ever increasing police state). BS, along w/ almost everything else going on within our government (local, state & federal). You want a small model for whats screwed up at the national level? Bryant (and Saline County as a whole) is a prime example. Wonder if LRPD used it to watch some of their own follow unlawful orders & violate 1st amendment rights of canvassers petitioning down there tonight?!
This happened on public streets outside the gates from Riverfest, NOT in RF! There were multiple issues w/ police telling people canvassing for several intiatives they had no 1st amendment right to do so! (as if there was nothing else better the LRPD had to do on taxpayers dime w/ all the drunks, fights, shootings that happen)...
The incident I know the most about (see pic above) involved Regnat Populus & our Campaign Finance & Lobbying of 2012 (which coincidentally has to deal w/ ethics & getting the money out of politics by stopping our elected officials from being bought by the wealthy (corporations & lobbyists). Our PUBLIC SERVANTS are no longer PROTECTING US! They are suppose to serve us, the people, not private entities. Yet they try to evict us from public streets?! Because of Riverfest, a private entity? The Chamber too! It really is about the almighty dollar! And we know who is in their pockets! Which is why we are collecting signatures on these petitions to stop the bs like what happened tonight! They have a duty to those who voted them into office, not lined their pockets. Learn more at www.thepeoplerule2012.com
Also, concerned citizens & groups will be meeting downtown to organize & petition the heck out of our government tomorrow at 10am, starting near the corner of Scott & Markham.
Let's show them what We The People really means! Let's exercise our rights!
It is after all Memorial Day weekend :)
This is outside of Riverfest JtSims. Guess outrageously overpriced food, alcohol, & other bs is more important than our constitutional rights nowadays, specifically to petition. Our rights in this country are being eroded & an ignorant apathetic public is to blame as much as city offices & the LRPD. This is some bs & we WILL be taking the streets tomorrow just like any citizen of this country & exercising our rights. Apparently you have forgot what holiday weekend we are celebrating. What a great way to remember/give thanks to our veterans who have fought & died to protect our rights...canvassers petitioning their government for a redress of grievances are the real problem?! Wtf!
Re: “Federal security objects to Occupy LR demonstration”
Bopbamboom, We would all love to demonstrate outside the courthouse during daylight hours, but unfortunately (and despite some contrary beliefs), most occupy members work during the day.
Bluefriction, I assure you I'm not a communist and we can discuss this further if you would like. Malcontent? May be guilty as charged, if you mean one who is in active opposition to an established order (that is attempting to erode our constitutional rights). Surely you didn't mean that in a derogatory way ;)
