Re: “Thousands of the most vulnerable Medicaid beneficiaries will not be protected by state's deal with insurance companies

As someone with a chronic illness that REQUIRES very expensive (without insurance) medication to maintain any functionality and avoid almost certain death, I was thrilled to be told last year I qualified for traditional Medicaid now, after losing my job earlier in the year last year due to illness complications rendering me unable to work. (Yes, I – begrudgingly – applied for Disability assistance, was denied and am now in appeal.)
Now with all of this Medicaid mess, I have no idea whether I still am covered. The governor saying DHS is caught up is like saying the sheriff of Nottingham was a generous guy. RIDONKULOUS. I have been on hold literally for more than SEVEN HOURS in the past two weeks just trying to talk to a human, any human, and find out if my reply back to them reached them (for the mid-point review financial update request) in time or if my coverage was also cancelled. I know my SNAP benefits (food stamps) were cancelled. I can't get anyone on the phone about that either, and the line is out the door every day at the office.
I'm terrified of what might happen at the end of this month when it's time for my refill. Terrified. No Medicaid means no medication. And that will eventually lead to more trips to the hospital that I can't pay for .... and worse.
Gov. Hutchinson needs to DOUBLE the staff of DHS or outsource the stuff to a department/organization that can handle the bigger workload, and stop screwing around and putting people's LIVES at stake.

Re: “Thursday: Josh Turner, Smittle Band, Amina Myers, Lunafest and more

You forgot to mention Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors at Rev Room Thurs night!
If you're a fan of Showtime television's "United States of Tara" or A&E's "The Cleaner," you've likely already heard and loved Nashville-based Americana band Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors.
The Memphis native has toured with the likes of Susan Tedeschi, Ryan Adams and The Avett Brothers and appeared on CMT's Legends and Lyrics alongside Pat Green, among others.
The group's latest album "Chasing Someday" includes the hit song "Fire and Dynamite," whose video has gotten considerable airtime on CMT, though there's not much "country" about this tune except perhaps the purity of Holcomb's voice and straightforward simplicity of his lyrics. The song, a sort of country-rock midtempo ballad, rocks.
Show Thursday night starts at 8:30 and tix are just $10, ages 18 & up!
