"GUANTANAMO BURNS THROUGH $900,000 PER PRISONER PER YEAR"
See? That's why we need to just let 'em go. Open the Gitmo gates. They can run down the streets of Havana like the Cubans did in Greenwood back in '80... Let Raul deal with them.
I left Arkansas at 21 and never looked back until my dad's health declined so I moved back to be near him.
No matter how much I loved the Buffalo River country and the many friends I had growing up, the repressive, regressive politics and culture of this backwater place were too much to bear. They may yet get the better of me a second time. After five years I've come to wonder if the state is in a suicide dive to hell. It was bad enough back in the 1970s and early 80s, but at least there was reason to hope that things would get better. But all I can tell has changed is that there are more ultra-rich and more ultra-poor and the politics have gotten even more worser than ever (and you can quote me on that).
Once I thought Jasper might be a last redoubt, but with the advent of C&H Farms that fantasy will remain nothing more.
Speaking of Mark Pryor, it looks like he may have missed a chance for a boost in his poll numbers.
Public Policy Polling (PPP) just released results of a poll they did this week that shows Mary Landrieu and Kay Hagen got a bump following their YES votes on background checks in Louisiana and North Carolina, respectively:
http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/201…
"In Louisiana 71% of voters say they favor background checks to only 20% who are
opposed. There is strong bipartisan backing with Democrats (80/13), independents
(72/21), and Republicans (61/28) all expressing at least 2:1 support. 44% of voters in the
state say they're now more likely to support Landrieu for reelection because she voted for
background checks, compared to only 26% who say they're now less likely to vote for
her. Landrieu has also seen a 6 point improvement in her net approval rating from the last time we polled the state in February, from +2 then at 47/45 to now +8 at 49/41.
"It's a similar story in North Carolina. There 73% of voters support background checks
with only 22% opposed. Again there is a strong consensus across party lines with more
than 60% of Democrats (86/11), independents (67/28), and Republicans (61/34) all
supporting them. 52% of voters say they're more inclined to reelect Hagan next year
because she voted for background checks, while only 26% of voters say they will be less
likely to support her because of it. ....
"PPP surveyed 536 Louisiana voters and 600 North Carolina voters on April 30th and May
1st. The margins of error are +/-4.2% for the Louisiana survey and +/-4.0% for the North
Carolina survey. These surveys were conducted on behalf of Americans United for
Change."
Because this was a Democrat-funded poll, we may assume that the reason they either didn't poll in Arkansas, or they didn't release the results if they did, is because they don't want to make Pryor look bad. But they needn't worry, he already does.
These days, there only need be two questions required of students graduating from home schooling to answer thoughtfully, to demonstrate they have acquired knowledge sufficient to get them past the pervasive knownothingism of most home schoolers:
1. Define evolution in scientific terms and discuss its significance in the study of biology.
2. Define 'global warming' or 'climate change' in scientific terms and discuss its significance in environmental and economic policy debates.
I'll give up my gun when I'm finished playing with it.
Guns don't kill people, Wayne LaPierre kills people.
A "well-regulated militia" is not the NRA.
