Re: “Wednesday To-Do: Dave Chappelle

Dave Chappelle killed it last night. I too was a little upset with some of the audience members who kept yelling "Rick James!," but, overall, Chappelle turned those negatives into positives and handled it with grace. Everyone who attempted to heckle him was not humiliated - which would have been easy to do for an experienced comedian - but incorporated into the show. I'll have to disagree with the previous commentor on the Wiz Kid Killa Twitter guy. It would have been easy for Chappelle to dismiss the kid, but instead, the audience was treated to a dramatic reading of the dude's tweets, set to the background of some killer harmonica playing from one of the guys from Chappelle's road crew. It was brilliance on display.

Also, there was a definite point during the set in which he shifted from obviously-rehearsed and practiced material into just plain riffing. Taking protracted breaks to take a drag from his cigarette gave the audience plenty of time to shout cues, which he ran with gladly. Someone randomly shouting "Obama!" turned into one of the best jokes of the night.

I've seen a few comics in my time - including Chappelle when he did UCA years ago (before his show made him a household name). The good ones, at their heart, are really just good story-tellers. The great ones can do it with ease, unrehearsed, just like he did last night.

Re: “Lottery's auditor submits resignation

In my experience reporting on the lottery, Michael Hyde was always a straight-forward and honest man in my dealings with him. He did a good job during his time as auditor and it will be a big loss for the Arkansas Lottery.

Re: “Bachmann: the new Palin

Citizen,

Just passing on a good article about Bachmann. Highlighting the connection to Stewart was nothing more than that. I'm not suggesting anything nefarious or saying anything about anyone's dark soul.

Re: “Weekly podcast: Sales tax and Johnny Cash

Centrist,

We actually use a Blue mic. Something happened with the audio this time, I'm not sure what. We'll try to do a better job of monitoring it while we record the next one.

Re: “Thomason won't run in 4th

You're right, Rackensacker. I wasn't clear. I've updated the post.

Re: “Vedder croons for Davis, Echols

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. The duets with Glen Hansard and Cat Power are particularly nice.

Re: “We're done

Thanks, eLwood. It's much appreciated. Today was kind of slow because we had to get the paper out somehow. Thanks to everyone for reading, as always.
