Sfter reading your magazine dated July 27,2011, "Arkansas Times, Best of Arkansas" I have come to the conclusion that, (1) 99% of your "BEST" is in Little Rock, Don't you people try to expand out to different cities of the state and get ads and promote your magazine. (2) There are other cities in the state that is BETTER than Little Rock, (3) It is not polite for you to include in your voting the CHAIN stores such as Walgreens and Best Buy. What was this counrty estabilished on? The Mom and Pop stores. The ones that had a caring and polite atmosphere about them. CHAIN stores are there just for the money and they really don't care about you. You are just a number to them and all they want is your money. No caring about them. (4) So all of this said I think your magazine's name should be changed to LITTLE ROCK SUCK UP or CHAIN STORE ADDS, because that is all it is..........

Perhaps its the mentality that pushed Blanche Lincoln to the Democratic nomination for US Senate or KATV being the "best TV station in LR". These mass polls are just a popularity contest, not necessarily the "Best Of Arkansas".

Most popular isn't always best: The best music isn't getting airplay on the local radio, and folks will fill in their favorite franchised business not because its THE BEST, but out of habit.

This is just the Arkansas Version of the People's Choice Awards.

I don't mean to be so negative, but I'm growing weary of reading "best of" lists that allow McDonald's and Sonic to win stuff. I wish those votes would just get tossed out so that local places can be recognized. It seems like that would be win-win. The paper might get some additional advertising dollars, and the local businesses can hang up a plaque or something. Does McDonalds really care that people around here are confused about what french fries are? Maybe it's just me, but it just makes sense to try to limit some categories to local businesses.

So AT&T is the best Internet service provider in Arkansas? In other states, where people are more knowledgeable about Internet service, AT&T is often ranked as the worst service provider, and by comparison, AT&T is doing a worse job in Arkansas than in other states. Many AT&T Arkansas customers can't even get decent dial-up service on their low-quality phone lines, let alone broadband. AT&T's plan is to let their copper wireline infrastructure rot away in Arkansas, and eventually shutdown wireline service in many parts of the state.

In summary, AT&T deserves to be ranked as the worst Internet service provide overall because broadband service is nonexistent in most areas of the state where they are the incumbent telco. The people of Arkansas are getting absolutely screwed by AT&T.

KATV: The "Brownings" of Little Rock Television. I just don't understand the appeal of that overrated, infomercial loving, preemption-prone, nominal ABC affiliate. Surrounding ABC affiliates KHOG/KHBS (Fayetteville/FSM), KAIT (Jonesboro), KTBS (Shreveport) , and even WABG (Greenville MS) are better ABC affiliates than the "Spirit Of Arkansas". I would expected this choice from readers in SE Arkansas where KATV has had a historic stranglehold on viewership going back to the analog/Redfield Tower era. I know KATV and Brownings has their rabid followers, but still.....

Tom FM (KKHN 94.9): Okay station , but it speaks volumes about the state of local radio in Little Rock.

I do agree with the OP, that the list is Central AR centric. But the reason is that the printed edition is only available in Central AR. Most folks in the hinterlands (where I live) are unaware of the Times.

Shouldn't this be retitled the Best of Central Arkansas since almost every winner and runner-up (except for a very, very few) seem to be from outside Central Arkansas? Oh, well, we in the hinterlands of the Natural State have gotten used to being overlooked, or perhaps looked down upon, thanks to Little Rock's superiority complex.
