Young Patrick Kennedy's portait of a political campaign is perhaps the single most important article featured in The Arkansas Times in all of 2010. It was written with great conviction and courage by a young political candidate far wiser than his age might lead one to believe. The refreshing aroma of honesty and dignity, briefly yet boldly, replaced the repugnant stench of the political arena of Arkansas politics. Bravo! You will be viciously attacked for your views, but your voice will be among those that "fall on the right side of history." The truth always triumphs.

Thank You Patrick! I loved your story. You made me laugh and feel sorry for you at the same time. It is not only politics that have changed, but all of America. Please know that, we know politicians are full of bull, and will lie to us. Unfortunately, we have to dance with the devil we like best. Keep writing, it may serve you better in the end.

Seriously?! Patrick Kennedy wining about a lack of decorum and nicety in the political process is akin to Clarence Thomas decrying the lack of prosecution for sexual predators. This is the same person who compared himself to Jesus Christ on radio, and wrapped himself in the "Flag of the working man", parking his Audi to ride the bus to work (at least during the election). Ego sum meus own pessimus hostilis. The Andrew W.K.-esque cover photo says it all. What a narcissistic ultramaroon!

My granddaddy was mayor of Bald Knob. This wonderful confession only confirms how glad I am that the "Run for Public Office" gene did not get passed down from him. I wouldn't last 2 weeks on the campaign trail, especially since as Patrick reveals, it no longer exists. We wonder why we have so many unqualified, unaware office-holders, but this is exactly why. Most thinking, caring, altruistic folks cannot put themselves through what he tried to go through.
We can only hope that Patrick is cursed by his own genes to run again so he can be that rare exception. We gotta find some more Vic Snyders somewhere, and it sure aint gonna be me! Thanks Patrick.

What a great article. I am sure that this young man, who impressed so many people in the primary, will have learned a lesson from his initiation into politics, and will come back again and do what he can to humanize the process.
