"Jerry DeWitt is an atheist. So am I. I was more or less born and raised an atheist (Unitarians being notoriously tolerant about who they let in their doors), I am still an atheist, my cancer is highly unlikely to change that, so I will probably die an atheist. No real surprise there. On the other hand, Jerry DeWitt comes from a background about as far removed from the customary intellectual, secular and academic breeding ground for atheists as is imaginable. For twenty-five years, Brother Jerry was a Louisiana-born, hardcore Jimmy Swaggart styled tent revivalist Pentacostal evangelical preacher. As in... wow.
DBI, it's not that simple. Do you keep open a veteran's home with serious problems both in facilities and staff, or do you close it down and replace it? Had the folks in charge done their jobs (that includes our political leaders), a new facility would have been move in ready before the old facility got in such bad shape, or they would have made the necessary improvements to the old facility and staff while keeping it open so veterans living there actually got the level of service we owe them as a nation.

It would seem, based on the latest legislative session, emotion, belief, and adrenaline rushes are major accomplishments. It's almost like 7th or 8th graders in high octane adolescence. Of course these folks may have discovered how to speak in tongues when it comes to reading law and the constitution. Another constant in their overall scheme is to keep doing the same thing over and over for decade, upon decade and actually expecting a result that would be pleasing to them. This is a recipe for something, but it pains me to have to tell them that I'm not buying what they are cooking (it's stale, cold, prepared in a very unsanitary haphazard way, and has the very unappetizing appearance of bile mixed with aged cowpies. It is strange to observe the looks on their faces when the words "shrinking demographic" are mentioned.

ozarkrazo - Mark Darr's own home was in foreclosure proceedings at last report, so it's not surprising that he doesn't care whether other home owners are forced to evacuate their property. The KUAR report says that Darr talked to "local citizens", but it is unclear whether he actually spoke with anyone who was forced out of their own homes for the past few months.

As in most elected positions in the state, obviously no prior knowledge or experience is required. For example, to write laws, legislators do not have to be lawyers; there's an entire floor of lawyers to do that for them. The lawyers for the legislators have to write the laws to conform to legal jargon; they can't refuse just because they disagree or that the proposed law is unconstitutional.

It is the same for State Auditor, State Treasurer, Governor, or Land Commissioner.

We elect them to oversee the professional staffs, but mostly to position themselves for another elected office. The professional staffs, as with the Ledge lawyers, can advise, but the elected official can ignore the advice and do a Shoffner or Rapert.
