“In 1721 [four condemned criminals were recruited to bury the dead during a terrible plague in Marseilles. The gravediggers proved to be immune to the disease. Their secret was a concoction they drank consisting of macerated garlic in wine, which immediately became famous as vinaigre des quatre voleurs (four thieves' vinegar).] It is still available in France today. This anecdote has been used to emphasise the health benefits of garlic, although the wine probably protected them as much as the garlic did.”
Justin Harris still has not revised his sworn "Disclosure by Member of the General Assembly" of Jan. 31st, where he marked the checkbox labeled "I have had no sales to the State as referenced in Act 808 of 1991", certified under penalty of perjury.

If I understand the ethics rules correctly, a legislator may be able to skip filing the conflict disclosure form if a business relationship with the state is disclosed in the separate financial disclosure form. But the rules don't say is it okay to file a false affidavit.

I have no plans to file a formal complaint with the Ethics Commission about it.

"New Breeding Program Aimed At Keeping Moderate Republicans From Going Extinct"

WASHINGTON—Saying the now critically endangered species of politician is at high risk for complete extinction within the next 10 years, Beltway-area conservationists announced plans Monday for a new captive breeding program designed to save moderate Republicans.

According to members of the Initiative to Protect the Political Middle (IPPM), centrist Republicans, who once freely roamed the nation calling for both economic deregulation and a return to Reagan-era tax rates on the wealthy, are in dire need of protection, having lost large portions of their natural terrain to the highly territorial Evangelical and Tea Party breeds.
If the Washington Post had been doing its job in reporting only the facutal stuff and not all that crap that politicians tend to spout as the truth in their world, they would not have to be calling that poor imitation of a representative who unfortunately represents me.

Looks like the WP is getting "wise" to the tactics of the wingnut party even it is late. Oh and that crap they spout? Well,

1) tax cuts for the rich create jobs
2) actual demand for products and services has nothing to do with growing the economy but tax cuts for the rich do
3) middle class and poor need to pay more taxes on their available income earned by old-fashioned work than the wealthy should pay on income earned on investments
4) the state of the economy is not the fault of previous Republican policies
5) that the "compromises" offered up by the Republicans during the Kabuki theater of congressional negotiations were "real" compromises
6) that R's really love America

If the Post and other Lame Stream Media would write it like it really is, we might not be so far down this road. But then again, after watching this latest attempt by wingers to fight the cultural wars rather than addressing the real problems we face in this country, I am beginning to think that the R's really want to destroy America for the benefit of the few.

The big chunk of empty and deteriorating buildings on Main is what is killing revival.

Who owns them? Why are they jsut sitting on them?

Small investers can make incremental advances opening businesses and growing through the blight.

UNLESS SOME BIG BLOCK OF BLIGHT CUTS OFF ADVANCE.

That is the situation on Main right now.

demolishing buildings and somewhat turning them into vacant lots kills the ability to redevelope blight.

PS, I know who owns most of them.

While we're handing our congrats and there's seldom anything Chickenopolis gets to crow about so this is great and Rogers School District gets caught in a big whopper:

"NORTHWEST ARKANSAS — Gifted, talented - and now $3,000 richer. Our congratulations go out to the Springdale School District’s gifted and talented program, which the Arkansas Department of Education recognized last week as being the best program of its kind in the state among districts with 3,000 students or more.

Cedar Ridge School District in north central Arkansas won for the category of districts with less than 1,000 students. Malvern won for the category of districts that have between 1,000 and 3,000 students. Congratulations to them, too.
....
Springdale was one of six school districts in its category that applied for the award this year.

Fayetteville - the last area district to win the award in 2007 - also applied. Bentonville did not, citing increased workloads from student growth.

Rogers did not because the director there said area school districts have a gentlemen’s agreement to avoid competing with each other, so they take turns applying. She said Rogers’ turn comes next school year.

Well, that’s odd, isn’t it? .....

Vanderspikken and Barbara Prichard, Fayetteville’s gifted and talented coordinator, said the agreement cited by Rogers does not exist."
