I read the article and didn't see that. I think it was written with a female bias though. Sounds like you're bringing alot of baggage to the table, rabaskdjf9ujwhatever. But if it's going to be that kind of party I'll go ahead and stick my d*ck in the mashed potatos, too.

Amber that said she thought her baby daddy was a good father but he didn't want to marry her. And her birth control failed (allegedly) so of course it's not her fault she's got two from two different men. She tends bar which is a major turn off anyway since those women are more likely to cheat. And who wants to marry a girl with two kids each from different dads? Only a chump. [Gyli?]

Another part of the article talked about how women don't need men to raise kids anyway and gave an example (Teresa.) She doesn't even want a man to help her. Good thing too since she also tends bar so move along guys nothing to see here.

Then the last example (Brittany) said something about one father didn't help and ran off with her BFF. Maybe she got fat or cheated on him first or is just a giant bitch. Maybe she had the option to have a relationship with a good father material man and wanted to do the bad boy outlaw biker instead and is now getting what she deserves. You don't know any of that.

Funny how the meme is that women just magically had a kid (did the stork deliver it?) and those low down dirty sperm doners won't take care of it. She made a bunch of decisions that led to that point which don't get covered. No one told her to have sex with that (alledgedly) poor, infantile father. Anyone who's ever been a part of under-30 female decision-making knows there is as much if not more to be desired as there is in the male version.

If you read the article, you see that the issue is that the men are not stepping up at all. The women don't want to be saddled with a guy they have to take care of. It's easier to let him go, because he's just going to be another problem for her, as has happened to so many women in the past when they were expected to marry the fathers. The men just carried on with other women, and their wives just had to deal with it any way they could. Led to many unhappy families. The women that don't want to do that may be doing their children an favor, considering the alternatives.

Says a lot about the men, doesn't it. Of course, the right wingers all spend their time talking about the women, over and over and over again, and ignore the men and their part in it. The women are always blamed for everything, as usual.

Unless your undisclosed Lothario raped some women then it took two to tango.
As Max has noted on AT pages before more females have been born than males. College age females out number the males. It's a big determinant in availability, intra species competition, etc.

100 women and one male make for 100 births.
100 males and one woman makes for 1 birth.
Now let me really start a fight here. We "Oh, dear" that a woman gets pregnant and chooses, for whatever reason, to remain single (if she actually has a choice). Okay, she made a mistake or a bad choice. Fair enough. I'll accept that. We all blow it from time to time, no matter what the issue.
But for the most part, the "Oh, dear" stories just brush lightly over the issue of unmarried fathers.
Sure, every now and then, we hear about the never married man who has fathered nine children with six women. And there are the countless other males who, uh, spread themselves thin with impunity. I know a young man who fathered one baby while still in school and another, with another young woman, less than a year later. Now there's another pregnant young woman in the picture and this fellow is sooo proud.
I suspect this will set up howls, but I think our Lothario should have a little snipping done, even if he did just turn 20.
Okay, maybe the ladies too, just to be fair. Two or three strikes and you're out? Yeah, yeah, I know, sounds a little too Chinese, doesn't it?

Do you know what it costs to have a baby today? It's in the thousands of dollars. A friend of my daughter got pregnant at 24. She was a part time college student and a server. She qualified for Medicaid. Had she married the father, she would no longer quality.

This has nothing to do with morality -- our ridiculous healthcare "system" gave them little choice.

Gyl, ever heard of correlation and causation?

The American obsession with who is and who isn't married is anachronistic, to say the least. A good read, for those interested in facts, is The Marriage-Go-Round: The State of Marriage and the Family in America Today (Andrew J. Cherlin). What he finds is that there is little connection between family stability and marriage. American marriages break up at higher rates than unmarried couples in Sweden (Godless! Socialism!), and Americans remarry at high rates. Maybe, just maybe, there's something to be said for social and economic stability?

Teenage birth rates in America are falling by the way. They are still three to four times higher than they are in Godless, immoral places like Sweden, Canada and France but they are steadily falling. As Krugman (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/10/opinion/…) has aptly pointed out, that is further proof for the right-wing theory that moral decay is causing economic depression. Oh wait.

It's really just capitalism at work. The man has more money if he doesn't marry the pregnant woman. It is no different than a venture capitalist having more money if he buys a company, lays off all the employees and auctions the assets.

If an action that is legal makes an individual more money, by definition it is the best choice for society, correct?

Not everything is about the uterus. That is shocking, I know. Regardless of the success or failure of particular methods of not becoming pregnant, there is always the option of a post conception shotgun wedding. That isn't happening as much as it used to. Why and what are its consequences are really interesting questions.

45% of babies born out of wedlock just another result of teaching kids that their individual freedom is the most important thing on earth.

November, what is wrong with the churches teaching religion like they are supposerd to. It isn't the role of schools to teach one brand of the "christian" cult. That is the family's and the church's role and after all, they have 16 hours a day AWAY from school for 5 days a week and 24 hours a day AWAY from school two days a week and for a lot of "cults", it appears that they spend hours in churches every Sunday. I guess we have a gross failure of "christian" ministers as well as "christian" parents.

And how's that "abstinance only" program working-if it was a "liberal"
program, ReTHUGlicans would be lining up throwing rocks at the failure! Of course, since it is THEIR program, it is a success even with its 40% failuire rate.
