She already went down the rabbit hole with Bachmann. Or was it through the looking glass. I truly believe it was an honest "misspoke" for her. Santorum yesterday was a perfect example of Carroll's Humpty Dumpty.

"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean -- neither more nor less."
"The question is," said Alice, "whether you can make words mean so many different things."
"The question is," said Humpty Dumpty, "which is to be master - - that's all."

      Woo Hoo! An open thread!

Sister, I read your post in last night's thread and was humbled by it. If you were my daughter, you would have a mother who loved you just as you are. You would also have a brother and sister who felt the same---not to mention a sometimes zany, always rambunctious extended family.

I was also somewhat chastened and provoked to thought by some other things you said. On this day when we honor two presidents---one a slave owner and the other, who emancipated the slaves---I need to think some more before I reply to you.

Somewhat related to how I (and the rest of us) struggle with (based on a quest for truth and honesty) or just react to (based on how we've been taught) issues of rights for all, is this thoughtful conversation between two black men. Glen Loury has an openly gay adult son. John McWhorter is married to a white woman.

http://bloggingheads.tv/videos/8993?in=52:…

For anyone on the fence about climate science and where the deniers get their "facts", this article by Chris Mooney is enlightening. Big oil is essentially using the same tactics that the tobacco companies did to deny science.

http://thinkprogress.org/romm/2012/02/19/4…

h/t to TimF who led me to Mooney.

http://www.balloon-juice.com/2012/02/20/ho…

Gas prices will no doubt be the next republican issue to lie about after they discover they are actually losing ground on women's health issues. Facts are really important here. Here's a link followed by a sample paragraph.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-02-20/o…

"Hedge funds and other large speculators boosted their net- long position in crude futures to the highest level in nine months, according to the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Managed-money bets that prices will rise, in futures and options combined, outnumbered short positions by 233,889 contracts in the week ended Feb. 14, the Washington-based regulator said in its report on Feb. 17. Net-long positions rose by 28,180 contracts, or 13.7 percent, from a week earlier."

And another.

http://www.chron.com/business/article/U-S-…

"The United States’ rapidly declining crude oil supply has made a stunning about-face, shredding federal oil projections and putting energy independence in sight of some analyst forecasts.
After declining to levels not seen since the 1940s, U.S. crude production began rising again in 2009. Drilling rigs have rushed into the nation’s oil fields, suggesting a surge in domestic crude is on the horizon.
The number of rigs in U.S. oil fields has more than quadrupled in the past three years to 1,272, according to the Baker Hughes rig count. Including those in natural gas fields, the United States now has more rigs at work than the entire rest of the world."

Facts have a liberal bias. That is not a canard thrown around by those of us on the left---just a statement of fact. It is important to get this information out there to combat the right wing wurlitzer that is no doubt being cranked up. Calling the right wing noise machine a wurlitzer is giving it too much respect since it shows no fealty to the 27% who believe their lies nor to the country. Their only fealty is to the money class. Let's just call it a hurdy gurdy.
