Sanford,
I agree we really don't need the dang park. But it's here, in a sense, with the creation of that dang board. The creation legislation stacked them with power.
And giving money to a start up is no guarantee that the company won't go bankrupt. Obama learned that lesson.
The best you all in LR can do now is to try to get the board to look somewhere else for the land. It's always going to be a case of "not in my backyard" for these things.
The best bet is turn an old industrial area into a green office park/research park.

Youre missin the point, OK....a Technology Park is an answer to a question that is not being asked by the leaders of technology enterprises. We dont need it anywhere. It is a waste of money. Take that 22 million and provide FINANCING to a startup. Apple Inc started in a garage. Microsoft started in Bill Gates' mother's basement. Good gawd they do not need our real estate community's idea of an office building.

      Max,

The story on the Little Rock Technology Authority Board is a perfect example of a board in charge doing what they want without caring what the people want. The Authority board will use their power of eminent domain to steal the land and ruin neighborhoods. You know, the Republicans and big-business Democrats won't change the law after the Supreme Court's decision of a couple years ago allowing cities to use eminent domain in the name of economic redevelopment.

The board is looking in the wrong area if they want land for their park. The perfect area that needs help for economic redevelopment is the east side of I-30 south of the Clinton Library and Heifer Project's headquarters. Imagine an area south of the D-G newspaper's printing press south to the cemetery area.

This would give the park easy access to the freeway, easy access to the River Market and would be visible from the highway which would help it grow!

Plus alot of this area is abandoned businesses and warehouse with some rental property. Yes, some people would still be displaced.

Unfortunately, the only help for the residents of the areas under consideration will be if they can get their places listed as historical really quickly which will be hard to do. By the way, did you notice the board only has 1 minority member and 1 woman but no one representing the public at large?
This proposition would be stupid and anachronistic even if it was being built on reclaimed toxic dump. Does Little Rock have so many vibrant and functioning neighborhoods it can afford to let this Maginot Line of an Industrial Park take aim at the hardworking great bluecollar hood? Does Little Rock city hall care? Answer: Nope. Not a Goddamn Bit.

I've also known some biomedical engineers. One mad scientist I knew told me how he created new organisms and released them into the wild on a whim, a dangerous breach of ethics and a toxic hazard. Soon the pandemics can start in midtown Little Rock.
