A few days ago, I mentioned, to outie's disgust, that insects may feed earth's ever-increasing population. Though insects are allowed to comprise a certain percentage of our processed foods and any bicyclist has gulped dozens of bugs, there will likely be hidden bugs in your future food.
The AT blog blurb:
http://bit.ly/YQxUJY

"Anjan Contractor’s [yes, that's his name] 3D food printer might evoke visions of the “replicator” popularized in Star Trek, from which Captain Picard was constantly interrupting himself to order tea. And indeed Contractor’s company, Systems & Materials Research Corporation, just got a six month, $125,000 grant from NASA to create a prototype of his universal food synthesizer."

"He sees a day when every kitchen has a 3D printer, and the earth’s 12 billion people feed themselves customized, nutritionally-appropriate meals synthesized one layer at a time, from cartridges of powder and oils they buy at the corner grocery store."

"Since a powder is a powder, the inputs could be anything that contain the right organic molecules. We already know that eating meat is environmentally unsustainable, so why not get all our protein from insects?"
====
Speaking of Star Trek, have you ever wondered about the "technology" in the show?
This latest statistic is yet another confirmation of the old Laud Humphreys model first espoused in his 1970 Ph.D. dissertation, "Tearoom Trade."

Humphreys conducted an ethnographic research into the kind of men who sought out anonymous sex in public restrooms. What he discovered shocked the academic world, and conservatives have been trying to cover it up ever since.

At least 50% of his subjects were outwardly heterosexual men with unsuspecting wives at home:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laud_Humphrey…

"...a primary thesis of Tearoom Trade is the incongruence between the private self and the social self for many of the men engaging in this form of homosexual activity. Specifically, they put on a 'breastplate of righteousness' (social and political conservatism) in an effort to conceal their deviant behavior and prevent being exposed as deviants. Humphreys tapped into a theme of incongruence between one's words and deeds that has become a primary methodological and theoretical concern in sociology throughout the 20th and 21st centuries."

I've seen this same model played out so many times over the years, I'm surprised it's not common knowledge.

Also, google "Baptist child predator." You will truly be shocked at just how big this scandal has become.

Tom Cotton is a carpetbagger in the truest sense of the word. His mailing address was Washington DC but the 4th district was inudated with daily Koch-funding mailings (like Faulkner County was for RAPERt or Irwin-it took some time for them to figure out that about 5 miles on the eastern side of Faulkner County wasn't in the RAPERt's district but it doesn't matter-they are twins in intelligent).

He even had to use his father's address to file as you may not have to live in the district but you do need an in-state address to run for federal representative.

Red states survive off the tax monies of the blue states. Texas was only able to balance it budget because good hair-gov took the stimulus he had been denouncing to cover the shortfall. Texas schools have suffered but that's okay because they have also doctored the curriculum so that the graduates can't carry on a conversation with an intelligent person. The time is coming when the average Texan, outside of Austin, may not be able to understand even TV sitcoms, much less a real newscast (not the fake stuff hateful stuff like FAUX).

LR, anyone appearing before Issa's committee would do well to have a lawyer and not say a damn word. Issa is a weasel and an ass (and that a compliment compared to what I really feel). He lies to the press, he changes the "facts" to fit his story. The man is without any morals and should be in jail for arson.

The authors of the report on the Libian attack offered for months to appear before House and Senate committees and were told no and then AH Issa issued a supena to have him appear alone and without counsel in a closed meeting. Issa knows the man who co-wrote the reports isn't going to fall all over himself at the altar to Issa. Issa won't let him appear in the open before the committee unless he first appears in a closed meeting.

Just for the record, the charter for the committee did NOT include the explanations of what happened after the attack but what happened when and what changes needed to be made in State and the miolitary to try to prevent future ones. Obviously, we (read U S House) didn't learn from the 13 people killed in Embassy attacks during George W. Bush's reign of terror which were never investigated by Issa. Deaths during Republican presidencies are just collateral damage, re 3500 in NYC and 4000 in Iraq/Afgahnstan.

yaaaaaawn. It's easy to make fried food taste good. What's sad is that other cities get amazing restaurants that have evolved beyond the rut that so many Little Rock ones have been stuck in for eternity. Sugary and fatty sides like coleslaw, fries, and baked beans are to be expected - don't you get tired of comparing whose are the best? Options that are healthier and more interesting are rare around here. So adventurous but health-conscious patrons can't come back again and again, you know, without having a myocardial infarction.

Look around - at Austin's Lucy's fried chicken, you can get a side of local farm vegetables, or salads made with baby greens. Sassafras in Denver serves its fried chicken from local, free-range fried chickens. And so on. Until Little Rock diners (and reviewers) start asking more of our restaurants, we won't be getting anything but the same old, same old. I don't care how tasty the fried chicken and fried pickles are - I still won't go more than once. Who can honestly say they can afford to, health wise?

So Hombre - should it be tore down? I think you are missing the point here. These places offer two things dude:

1. Mushy historical preservation for folks that cry when old buildings are tore down for a variety of reasons - Park Hill E is a historical school building - think dude do they still build school buildings like that one today? No they don't....
2. Space that can be updated and used for other things - renovating 99% of the time is cheaper than building new.
