Considering that Kellerman's studies were roundly and completely refuted, it is disingenuous at best, to link his study as any refutation of Klecks more thorough study of the issue. Hemengway has some giant brass balls to talk of extrapolation since most if his book on firearms danger is one long tedious extrapolation of a flawed premise.

Upshot is that after all the years of reviewing Klecks studies, the BEST that has been accomplished is a neutral return, that it didn't matter one way or another.

At the end, though, the DOJ remarks are pretty idiotic on the face of it. True, a gun suddenly present in the hands of the would be victim could escalate a situation. That is not an entirely bad thing. A rape is a pretty awful thing, but if a rape victim could use her firearm to kill the rapist, yes, it escalated to a homicide. Thing is, it would be a justifiable homicide, and no loss to society. Disparity of force is why a lot of criminals will use size or numbers instead of weapons. Is it so unfair, then, or unjust or unreasonable for a small woman, or an elderly couple to pull a gun out and balance the odds better in their favor?

How about the 18 year old with her baby that was being assaulted by two men, one of whom 'only' had a hatchet? She got the shotgun and ended the situation. Or, the elderly woman who was assaulted in her house by a man with a knife. The DOJ report would call it an escalation that she pulled her shotgun and killed the thug. In those two instances, the cops deemed those justifiable, which they were.

My own experience got me to researching the validity of such studies. Part of the problem with Kleck's study is that it wasn't complete enough to include the many time a gun is used defensively, and there is no shots fire, and no police reports made. In the four instances I was faced in with that situation, I only reported the crimes once. That was because the lives I saved were not mine, but a gay couple being beaten to death by a gang.

The crimes with guns are easy to trace, and the FBI has loads of the stats. Defensive use of guns is far harder because most people, when they extricate themselves from the situation with a gun, continue on with their lives.

Elwood, on May 14th Life News reported:

Fifty six days after the grisly trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell began, ABC broke its self-imposed blackout and finally offered coverage.

World News anchor Diane Sawyer belatedly told viewers that Gosnell was convicted on three counts of first degree murder against newborn babies, as well as on a slew of other charges. Terry Moran explained, “For two months, jurors heard often shocking, grisly testimony.” He described the details as a “house of horrors.” A house of horrors that ABC took 56 days to notice.

As the Media Research Center has aggressively documented, ABC went from March 18, 2013 (the trial’s start) through Monday afternoon with no coverage. Yet during the same time, the network devoted a staggering 187 minutes (or 70 segments) to other shocking criminal cases, such as Jodi Arias and Amanda Knox.

Moran noted that “Opponents of legalized abortion seized on this case.” The journalist quoted Jeanneane Maxon, the vice president of Americans United for Life. She asserted, “Well, Gosnell’s not an aberration. Abortion clinics are unregulated and every year we see the deaths of women inside these clinics.”

Nightline’s Moran first highlighted the Gosnell case on Twitter, way back on April 12. But he has failed to cover the story until now.
Elwood, Dr. Gosnell's practices are widespread. Here is what we know from this article by Denny Burk:

I have noticed that many abortion advocates have been acting as if the atrocities of Kermit Gosnell are a one-off anomaly—as if there are no other late term abortionists in the United States who have to deal with infants born alive. Nothing could be further from the truth. Live Action has produced a couple undercover videos showing how routine both late-term abortions are. The videos also show that late-term abortionists everywhere have to deal with infants who survive abortions.

The video shows a clinic worker telling a woman to flush her baby down the toilet if the baby survives the abortion. This video shows an abortion doctor describing what he would do if a baby survived an abortion. In short, he says he would let it die on the table (which is illegal).
NO, ES, the Supreme Court changed the rules. Remember? Now the states that hate their poor and hope they will leave for other states so they can fix their own meals, clean their own houses, work for Walmart, launder their own clothes, and mow their own yards (looking at some of those "People of Walmart" videos, maybe pushing a mower might be good for their health and the country)can exclude them from coverage so they can give tax cuts to the top 0.01% (thanks Davie Carter, we won't forget so you better hope they don't as you won't have our money to run for higher office and not even the Walmart clan can vote more than once thanks to Bryan King (or do they have different rules over in Republican country?).

According to the Rogers Morning News, this sounds like it's all over but the shoutin'. The land is there, parking structure already in place, and 90% of the $11 price tag is committed. And from the concept drawings in the paper, it looks like it will be a top-notch facility.

Fayetteville doesnt sound like they've done anything. Sounds like they were caught flat-footed on this deal.

The more I think about it, the more I like it. This will finally give Rogers something. Fayetteville has WAC and the UofA; Springdale has Arvest Ballpark and the Naturals; Bentonville has Crystal Bridges and the new WAC; and Rogers will something other than the Promenade...and me!

The 'cancer' is D vs R systemic - bribed, beholden anti-health, determined to remain by far the most expensive in the world. The GOP disgusting as they are have been very consistent on this for a very long time - since the Clinton era, AHIP, Heritage Foundation Bob Dole and Mitt Romney. Democrats served this tumor up on a platter, knowingly, eagerly.

As for the article, we were told for years if States opted out the feds would do it. Is this article a new lie, more false fear or was the promise of feds doing it originally if states decided not to participate the big lie?

If some of those without insurance due to state Republican indifference get ill, they will still go to the ER (the most expensive part of the medical system) and still get treatment and the hospital will still have uncompensated costs which will result in either some state money being needed (Medicaid?)or make hospital finances in poorer areas even riskier. People will die but, hey, they probably didn't pay much in taxes or belong to the NRA or contribute to GOP causes.
