Justthefactsplease, you consider an African-American voting FOR the grocery tax cut to be heavy lifting, do you? My, my, my.

And this: "He has never sponsored a bill for Flake ... ". I suspect you already know that when bills are filed, they include the language in the bill, legislative sponsors/co-sponsors names, etc., but never the name(s) of those on whose behalf said bills are filed. You do know that, yes?

You're six for six- 100% of your career ArkTimes posts are on this thread. Makes me think you are a paid worker for the Allen campaign. Nothing wrong with that if you disclose. It's called honesty and transparency.

Simply amazing Max. I ask you for facts supporting your position that Allen has not stood for his neighborhood and Arkansans. You give generalities. It seems you are using Allen and Flake as a diversion from the real issue - - Elliott was on the UALR payroll before she accepted the $80,000 publically funded position, even though state law forbid her to do so and Elliott didn't pay her tax liens until the D-G article brought the issue to light. Check Allen's record. He has never sponsored a bill for Flake, and he's never hired a campaign consultant. He has sponsored legislation to help all Arkansans. He sponsored Act 1301 to create an Alternative Engergy Commission. He sponsored Act 730, to help young people become better prepared for college. He sponsored Act 75, to require health benefits and carried the health care reform legislation. He voted yes for the grocery tax cut. He fought corporations who sell imitation toy guns that look like real ones when he sponsored Act 1495. But don't let the facts distort your opinion.

Then why bring up Christian at all, jtf? It's irrelevant. I didn't just fall off the turnip truck. And I didin't attack Allen's character. I believe he'll represent those who finance him, as most politicians do. Doesn't reflect a criticism of his character, only his viewpoint. The legislature is full of corporate representatives. BTW, might you know why no payments appear on his reports for campaign consulting? Your intimate knowledge suggests you might have some insight on this.

Allen has yet to demonstrate he departs in any significant ways from the outlook of his sponsors, who are anti-union, anti-tax, anti-health care reform, anti-environmental regulation. This is what the chamber stands for, check their website; this is what it lobbies for. He thinks tort reform needs another look. I don't. I expect him to vote as his sponsors wish on school "reform" issues, until he declares otherwise. His campaign treasurer has established a record as being part of a publicly financed agency that has neither been fully transparent nor fully accountable to the public. It also has not been particularly respectful of people whose homes are in jeopardy of late. I trust Joyce Elliott to look out for people in the district on this issue more than Dickson Flake, Allen's campaign treasurer of long standing; or Jackson T. Stephens or Jim Walton. By extensioni of that support, it raises natural questions about where he'll stand.

Personally, Allen is a fine fellow. Extraordinarily, spectacularly nice. In a race against Joyce Elliott -- where issues and not personality (and certainly not church membership) are the deciding factors -- she's the choice from my philosophical point of view.

The phrase "unapologetically Christian," does not mean anyone is seeking an apology for anything. It doesn't mean anyone is better than anyone. It simply means a person is unashamed of their Christian faith/values, which seems relevant given the fact that Allen's character is being attacked. But let's not digress. What facts do you have that Allen has not stood up for his neighborhood and all of the people of Arkansas? Flake is Allen's treasurer, not his campaign chair. The fact of the matter is your paper endorsed Allen six years ago and Dickson Flake was his treasurer six years ago. You gave him a glowing endorsement then. Earlier this week he was a "truly nice guy." Now he's "not that bad." Things that make you go hmmmmm.

The Christian inference is clear. Your straw man suggestion that an apology was somehow sought says it all. Elliott has stood up for her neighborhood. I await Fred's call to end chamber control -- down to the records -- of a publicly financed agency that threatens hundreds of residents. perhaps I could get a commitment from him too to require transparency in campaign spending, another thing his campaign chair has failed to champion along with the rest of the good suits.

      Max,

You earlier reported one candidate (Elliott) had approximately $70,000 while the other (Allen) had approximately $75,000, suggesting that somehow Allen was better financed than Elliott, which is not true.

Allen's response to the financial disclosure issue was given to the D-G, as was his response to their question about tort reform, where he responded the issue "needs to be revisited." He also told them he had no problem with Elliott's suggestions for changing state law for the technology authority. To say he is the corporate candidate is simply not true. He has been active in his community supporting the interests of the people in District 33. He is unapologetically a Christian. Did you ever consider that the reason the urologists gave him money could be because of his fight to make sure insurance companies were required to provide prostate cancer screening for men over the age of 40 or because Allen, who is a prostate cancer survivor, has been a strong proponent of making sure all Arkansans have access to quality health care? Doesn't sound like a corporate man to me! His record in the General Assembly speaks for itself. To say Allen is Flake or the COC's puppet is untrue, unfair and grossly misrepresents the facts.
Justthefacts,

You left out one critical fact. Dickson Flake is campaign chair/treasurer of the Allen campaign.

Also, by all means compare the financial reports filed by Elliott and Allen. I reported earlier that their money on hand was comparable. But go to the secretary of state and compare the sources: Individual contributions for Elliott, including from the district she currently represents, in the most recent report; some notable lobby and corporate names on the Allen list, including a bundle of contributions from Jackson T. Stephens Jr. interests (to go along with earlier money from Jim Walton and Arvest) as I noted when I wrote about this before.

http://www.sos.arkansas.gov/filing_search/…

One candidate is, demonstrably, the corporate candidate. One is not. Lots of people prefer the corporate variety, of course. We'll see if Allen's elected if he follows through on that open government support, given in response to a question from an advocacy group that favors disclosure. Members of the Authority Board haven't exactly whooped up the idea so far. He has volunteered without being asked, however, to work on tort reform. On THAT, I'm confident he'll follow through.

Check the facts. Dickson Flake has given $250.00 to the Allen campaign. Allen said in the D-G article that he was in favor of requiring board members to file financial disclosures because "any time you are in this position, you should fill out a financial disclosure statement no matter whether you are a justice of the peace or on the planning commission." As of March 31, Elliott raised $113,331 in contributions and had $76,113 in the bank. Allen raised $75,128 and had $52,213 in the bank for the same period.
