Too little and too late for this thread, but... I thought Dick Powell was from Berryville. Their museum in the old courthouse thinks so. I have lived within 17 miles of Jones Barbecue in Marianna for 12 years, yet had never heard of it until the last couple of months. Too late to try it now; I suppose it will be overrun with gourmands. Speaking of which- the MFK award? Does this refer to MFK Fisher? Those of you who have not read her, run don't walk and start now. Brilliant.....

Why, yes! No sooner had I rung off from my Beltway insider yesterday, than it seems the Biden quote entered the news cycle!

http://gay.americablog.com/2012/05/biden-e…

Validates what my pal also told me to expect: a seemingly fraught internal drama, from the White House down and throughout the Democratic Party, echoing society's "conflicts" over Constitutional guarantees of equality. In this case, President Obama's "good" cop wanting to support "traditional" marriage but "evolving" and Vice-President Biden's "bad" cop dragging him into the 21st Century.

The second act (leading up to the election) oughta be a doozy.

The third act? Either way, a watershed in United States history overshadowing even the previous watershed -- the election of a black President. Because this election, more than any before it, directly challenges Christian fascism in America.

Can't wait to see how it ends!

Show business is my life.

I'm glad Grennel is gone because he is a war-mongering neocon (and have I also said he is a misogynist?), but he did get thrown under the bus pretty quickly once the xtian base roared "No fags allowed".
Well, eLwood, my streak is still intact of not picking a Derby winner in 20+ years of wagering. I always pick a horse between 10-1 and 20-1 odds in the Derby and chose Daddy Nose Best. I flirted with I'll Have Another, but was put off by the 19th-pole position. Oh well, I live to lose another year (that is until college football commences. I actually made a profit last season).

Norma, my precious, I'm inclined to believe Obama will come out in favor of marriage equality based on the numbers alone (not principle, of course). Nationally, it's 52-48% good guys.

If you eliminate every state south of the Mason-Dixon Line, which Obama won't win anyway, I bet the numbers would be at least 58-42% good guys. At this point, it's stupid not to come out for marriage equality. And as you mentioned, he has to give under-30 voters a reason to give a damn.

We were out kicking up our heels last night and WBW, in an inebriated state, requested I relay to you that she wished for a disco-themed reception. We're going to NYC in early August to tie the knot so we'd better shoot for early fall for the shindig (let's make sure it doesn't conflict with Auburn & Vandy games, though).

I think I recall your mentioning performing a Donna Summer set in Beijing, so I doubt it'll be a stretch to revamp your repertoire. Show business is your life and this isn't that monumental a request given you have at least a three-month window to prepare.

I know Durango and Tap have that soft-shoe number prepared, but we'd like them to perform this to lead off the show. It's a definite crowd pleaser.
eLwood, the firing of teachers in Little Rock in 1959 led to the formation of the organization, STOP (Stop This Outrageous Purge), which won the first victory in the battle against the die-hard seggies. It also brought out a lot of previous fence-straddlers to support the cause of integration. It convinced the decent people who had not taken a stand just how dangerous the anti-integration forces were. It was able to reverse the firing of the teachers, and it generated support for continuing the integration of Central High. I lived there then, and I remember that organization as the turning point. For a good article about it, go to the Encyclopedia of Arkansas.

Actually, I was on the phone with the above, but don't be ridiculous. Astrology is hoohah.

But if it weren't, I'd be at the track itself or in a sports book so I could see the actual time for the next race posted on the actual board -- usually half an hour or so before. Then it would be easy to mentally adjust the ascendant for the chart I'd previously printed (or stored in my iPhone).

Plus I would really only bet long shots because there would be no thrill left in winning $2.25 on a $2 bet. So I would look for races likeliest to be won by a longshot.

Or if I wanted to bet every race I would look for the longest-shot's position in the chart for each race: Win, Place or Show. And bet it for that position. Because of much better odds than the favorites' positions.

Is what I would do if there were anything to hoohah. Which everybody knows there isn't and besides I quit going to the track several years ago because I knew too much.

Using hoohah in the market? Whole other ball game because the only living creatures to die from drugs and corruption are brokers.

Hate that there's nothing to hoohah because this Super Moon's been driving everybody nuts since yesterday. Staying in tonight, just to play it safe.

Sorry you missed the Derby.

Full Moon tonite, will be coming up the E horizon around 8 PM, big and bright. It's in perigee phase, close to Earth. If over 50 keep yer aspirins handy.
Robo calls in Chickenopolis area are centered around state senate repub primary between Pritchard and Jon Woods, both super losers for this town. Woods was one of the R House members who signed on to the Republican budget plan calling for the closing of State Police training Academy in Springdale. Pritchard's been voted one the "worst Legislators in Ark" by the ADG in earlier years.
I'll believe THIS when I see it, but a Beltway insider says Team Obama is SERIOUSLY doing the political calculus of adding same-sex marriage equality to their platform.

"They figure the polarization is already frozen yea or nay, Obama or Romney. Independents and under 40s are the target appeal. Are there enough, though.

"Somebody said it'd be the equivalent of Shock and Awe if it's sprung in Charlotte in September. Throw the whole election into stark relief: one side FOR equality for all -- one not. The whole religious litmus test thing. Exploded.

"Tie it with the GOP's War on Women and threats to Medicare and Social Security. Very real issues for seniors. Even conservative ones. Religious ones.

"You add in the appeal to conscience, by doing right by ALL Americans, and cement the so-called youth vote -- you've got serious numbers. A political jump-start like this country hasn't seen since Virginia versus Loving. Even bigger. With Obama on the cutting edge and the GOP stuck in the past.

"They've painted themselves into a corner with the Tea Bagger fundamentalist takeover and it's exploitable. 'You may not like 'em any more than blacks, but by God we're Americans -- we're all equal -- and it's time.' It's unbelievable. Electricity. And nobody can even talk about it publicly yet.

"It's the last thing they want with the Mormon thing. Obama the good Christian, Romney the bad Christian. Fun, no?

"You'll know by how much speculation about this creeps into the news cycle over the next four months. In fact if you're paying attention you may have already noticed it."

Uh, he's right there, Razorbabies.

I have.
Family member sent the following joke:

Subject: The Bus Trip

Two bowling teams, one of all Blondes and one of all Brunettes,
charter a double-decker bus for a weekend trip to Louisiana.

The Brunette team rode on the bottom of the bus, and
The Blonde teamrode on the top level.

The Brunette team down below really whooped it up,
having a great time, when one of them realized she
hadn't heard anything from the Blondes upstairs. She
decided to go up and investigate..

When the Brunette reached the top, she found all the
Blondes in fear, staring straight ahead at the road,
clutching the seats in front of them with white knuckles..

The brunette asked, 'What in the world is going on up here?
We're having a great time downstairs!'

One of the Blondes looked up at her, swallowed hard and whispered...

'YEAH SURE, YOU'VE GOT A DRIVER'!!
