Doc, it really isn't hyperbole. If you'd seen events in the PCSSD first-hand, you'd know this. I have seen them, for I am a PCSSD teacher, maintain that "Crisis" blog myself, choose my words carefully, and did write there that those in charge are waging war on the entire process of education -- because they ARE. During the end of the year, my students were so distracted by this labor dispute that education in my classroom was virtually impossible, as I documented in a letter to this newspaper on May 2 ("Interfering with Education"). There is also more information at an on-line petition anyone may find with Google: it is the #1 hit if you search for "Mike Beebe PCSSD." I will admit that some of it sounds like hyperbole, yes, but that is only because the things being done to teachers in the PCSSD, our students, the disenfranchised taxpayers, etc., really are this extreme. Anyone who agrees with the petition is asked to sign it, and then spread the word.

Brett was right there yesterday, watching Flipper's Liberty University commencement speech from the back of the hall with other Team Romney players, according to B-I -- despite that three-month old Politico story disavowing any "formal" role for O'Donnell. He, and they, sneaked out during Flipper's final remarks.

(Audience response to Flipper's remarks was largely "tepid." Biggest applause line referenced "right to life.")

Especially now, in light of Obama's blasting the gay equality thing wide open, Team Flipper is desperate to minimize and sugar-coat, wherever possible, appearances of overly-harsh anti-gay bigotry pandering to Tea Baggers. ESPECIALLY since somebody "leaked" that internal GOP memo to Andrew Sullivan.

It's just a replay of the GOP's old "stealth" candidates, who would pretend to be moderates until elected to local and state offices then, once in, show their true colors. Over the decade or two since, they'd grown increasingly bold about their determination to exclude gay Americans and criminalize abortion -- until recently, when both demographic polls and their own consultants said to dial it back or face disaster. (Or have to steal another POTUS election, which won't be as easy as last time.)

In other words, "start lying again." (As if they ever stopped.)

Brett O'Donnell was Liberty University's crack debate team coach back in the day, and an devout acolyte of Falwell's. Brett's problem, say insiders? He's too big for his britches and likes to taking too much media credit. So they've told him to shut up.

Despite Team Flipper's disavowals in months'-old media reports, he's still very much coaching Flipper's debate efforts.

Max, there's also a guest column on fracking Arkansas by Kelly Robbins, VP (oh sorry, 'executive' VP) of the Arkansas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners Association in today's Democrat. Like so many corporate whores, Robbins mentions only the benefits and none of the damage being done as Arkansas gets fracked good.

No mention by this shill of hundreds of millions of dollars in road damage from all the fracking trucks which is multiples higher than the $154 million in severance tax Robbins claims was collected since 2009. No mention of the devaluation of other property adjacent to those thousands of fracking operations and noisy compressors. No mention of all the disposal sites for waste fracking fluids that violated every regulation in the book. No mention of all the fracking sites that also had serious violations of the limited and pitiful regulations which have not kept pace with the onslaught of fracking activity. No mention of how corporations like Southwest and Chesapeake who do far more fiscal damage to Arkansas infrastructure and resources than they pay in severance taxes are the largest welfare kings and queens in Arkansas. No mention of well water that after fracking nearby suddenly becomes gas-filled and flammable.

No, Robbins is happy the folks he represents are getting the gold mine while the taxpayers of Arkansas are getting the shaft. Robbins and his folks smile all the way to the bank while everyone else gets fracked.

The Perryman report is embarrassing even by the standards of paid shills. It is all bullet points and doesn't quote a single source with actual Arkansas data. The UA's Kathy Deck, hardly known for being overly critical of the industry (she neglected to mention the road damage caused by drilling activity), has estimated the direct employment impact of Arkansas shale gas at less than 5,000 and the total employment impact at less than 12,000 (ftp://cast-ftp1.cast.uark.edu/jcothren/efd/deck.pdf). The Texans-for-hire claim that up to 10,000 jobs will be lost. Nice work if you can get it.

What else is new? Oh, Talk Business' Roby Brock will shamelessly regurgitate any piece of corporate propaganda that comes his way. So, nothing is new.

Here’s another odd obituary for blog pals who, like me, collect such things. It was published in the Denver Post last month; a friend sent it today.

Michael “Flathead” Blanchard
1944 ~ 2012

A Celebration of the life of Michael “Flathead” Blanchard will be held on April 14th, 3 pm, 8160 Rosemary St, Commerce City.

Weary of reading obituaries noting someone’s courageous battle with death, Mike wanted it known that he died as a result of being stubborn, refusing to follow doctors’ orders and raising hell for more than six decades. He enjoyed booze, guns, cars and younger women until the day he died.

Mike was born July 1944 in Colorado to Clyde and Ethel Blanchard. A community activist, he is noted for saving the Dr. Justina Ford house from demolition and defending those who could not defend themselves. He was a Republican delegate, life member of the NRA, founder and President of the Dead Cats MC. He loved music.

Mike was preceded in death by Clyde and Ethel Blanchard, survived by his beloved sons Mike and Chopper, former wife Jane Transue, brother Stephen Blanchard (Susan), Uncle Don and Aunt Cynthia Blanchard (his favorite); Uncle Dill and Aunt Dot, cousins and nephews. Baba Yaga can kiss his butt.

So many of his childhood friends that weren’t killed in Vietnam went on to become criminals, prostitutes and/or Democrats.

He asks that you stop by and re-tell the stories he can no longer tell. As the Celebration will contain Adult material we respectfully ask that no children under 18 attend.

----------------------
Speaking of obits, a political one may be in the making. Sitting next to me on the plane yesterday was a Mike Ross pal. Said Ross is “seriously, SERIOUSLY reconsidering” his long-planned run for governor in ’14. Thinks the “Party” is irretrievably lined up behind Dusty. Hard to overcome that. (See Bill Halter vs. Blanche.) And Ross has no intention of staying in DC to lobby, the fella said. So what will Ross do? What WILL he DO?

-----------------------
And finally, here’s wishin’ a Happy Mother’s Day to all you blog mamas out there. Don’t know how the rest of you feel about yours, but . . . .

I’ll Always Love My Mama.
jtsims, so you're saying you can take the boy out of the 'hood but you can't take the 'hood out of the boy? I would like to agree with you but I can't. Not in all cases. College athletics has been the salvation for many poor, smart kids born to desperate circumstances. I laugh at myself writing that because I don't even particularly like college sports. Maybe it's just a myth but I'd like to believe everyone has a chance.

I do gather from this story and many others over the years that the UA athletic program and UA itself could do a much better job of looking at any criminal history, proof of upstanding character, and conducting more thorough background checks when they select students and staff to represent their program. I say this realizing that juvenile court records are sealed and expunged, but surely a cursory reading of that dreaded "permanent record" from high school would reveal a bent towards thuggery OR personal betterment? Teacher reports, truancy history, behavior incident reports and so on would help reveal that kid's character, wouldn't it?

This wasn't the first rodeo for these guys.

It's going to be a bad football season for UA next year. I want them to rise to the challenge, but I don't think it's gonna happen. Place your bets accordingly!

      Flipper and Chuckles?

“That’s the nick that sticks. Behind his back, it’s Flipper.” So says my Beltway Insider (B-I) of Mitt Romney’s derisive moniker, five minutes ago. The same insider who teased me with the advance play-by-play on the Democrats’ marriage-equality bombshell.

Not Mittens. Flipper. Wait for it in the news cycles.

But Chuckles?

“The way he smirks and chuckles at his own lame jokes. Nobody takes Huckabee seriously. Nobody ever has. He gets the Hee-Haw vote but he’s a perennial also-ran. Trust me: you’re not gonna see the Beverly Hillbillies on Pennsylvania Avenue. The flip side is it also skewers his bromance with the karate guy. The has-been action movie guy.”

Chuck Norris?

“Yeah. Anybody else makes Chuckles look even shorter and baggier than he already is.”

Okay. Flipper I buy. Somehow I suspect Chuckles will remain too “inside” for the news cycles. But that, according to my B-I, is the least of the GOP’s worries.

“It’s the debates. Flipper lost to McCAIN in ‘08, for Christ’s sake! Obama’s gonna mop the floor with him. Which is why they’re already fighting to micromanage the whole thing. Who the moderators are, what they’re allowed to ask, what they can’t, who’s in the audience, tiny transmitters, the whole nine yards. Anything to hide the fact that he’s a robot who freezes in an endless loop off-script. They’ve even brought in O’Donnell.”

Who?

“McCain’s old debate coach. BACHMANN'S old debate coach. A senior strategist on her campaign. Brett O’Donnell. Fag hag for lost causes.”

He had to take another call, leaving me to savor the pungent high-level statesmanship steering our Ship of State on the Potomac.

Flipper and Chuckles. That’s NOT the ticket, apparently.
Another lying piece of shale information. Let's look at the options-(1) you go to states where there is the possibility of gas or oil (I doubt they are going to look for shale gas in Florida but they are free to look), (2) Arkansas' rate is 1/300 of that of Texas which is based on selling price so the low wholesale cost doesn't get impacted, just gas company profits, (3) Montana has a 12% rate on the sale price and it is slowing down there (4) since the tax is on gas/oil crossing the state's borders, the impact ISN"T on Arkansas ratepayers. The whole things is just another industry lie, e.g., smoking doesn't hurt you, trust us; banks have only their customer's best interest in mind; currtting retirement sopcial security and medicare won't impact anyone mportant.

And don't wait for the truth out of the ADG, they get too many ads about how poor they are from the oil companies and how they haven't hurt our roads. If we don't pass an increase in the severance tax, then don't expect a sales tax to fix the highways. They can cut the I-540 by-pass, leave I-430/I-630 ending in mid-air, eliminate whatever I-69 is, and even I-40 north to Memphis and that will be too bad! We won't be any worse than I-40 through OK in 1996.

Let's get rid of corporate socialism.
