There's always some ad "expert" out there trying to make you buy from him because he's exclusively clued into the new best thing. These things go in phases. When I first got into the business it was targeting by demographic clustering. Then it was "branding." These days it's the internet. But it's really all bullshit. There's no one right way to advertise. It depends on the product, the audience and the market. One size does not fit all.

I don't think that Wisconsin stands for much except the fact that recall is a drastic remedy that should be utilized only when an elected official has done something terribly wrong, or illegal, and that it is not a tool to be used in political battles. That is why the President's popularity rating is still high in Wisconsin, despite the victory of the Republicans. Many of the national pundits are saying that the labor unions made a big mistake in judgment here, and they are probably right. I heard an official of the AFLCIO say on NPR that the recall effort was a grassroots effort, and not dictated by above. Maybe the people above should have told the grassroots that "This is not the time." Just because you disagree with a governor about policy or new laws, should not mean you have a right to recall him. Fight it out when he comes up for re-election, Incidentally, this is what CNN found many of the voters were saying in exit polls, however, you have to wonder about its exit polls since it put the vote at 50-50 based on exit polls.

The disturbing thing is that labor can never match the contributions of the Koch brothers, who seem to be willing to spend whatever is necessary to buy this country.
I hate to tell this on a site driven in part by ad revenue, but thanks to Firefox, Adblock Plus and Noscript, I didn't even KNOW there were ads on Facebook. Seriously, not even a pop-up ad on FB, but I don't spend much time there. They keep changing how it's structured. For example, when I click on 'Welcome' instead of seeing news or personalized content from your 'likes', you get a list of 'people you may know' whom you don't know and have no interest in knowing. I wish they would stop changing so much.

      >>that the vote was a big defeat for "big labor,"...<<

Shows you how un astute or inastute Ch 11 can be. In fact it was Walker's pitting other labor unions against AFSCME that scored him some big points. So it was a big labor election and certain big labor helped re elect Walker.

If he tries to make Wisconsin like Ark, a right-to-be-fired-at-will state, then he would lose.

Gov Walker never touched fire and police unions. He was after the water workers, teachers, gov clerks, trash haulers.

If I've correctly understood the election results Walker's Repub party did lose control of the state senate. So his wings were clipped significantly.

Of course NO TV station is going to ever mention the millions spent on campaigns anywhere. TV stations get the lion's share of the spending.
for now.

We've all said our eulogies about Wisconsin Recall election and now it's settled, Wisconsin is now a subsidiary of Koch Industries.

Lots of money was spent in that Recall election. It set a record for political spending on a governor's race. But, there was one other statewide campaign where much more was spent.

This is for you folks who think money doesn't matter in political campaigns. The mother's milk of politics can change a pig's ear into a silk purse.

In Mar 67% favored an initiated act until Big Money got into the mix.
Rachael tells the story, using nothing but facts:
Facebook AND newspapers are both ineffective advertising buys. Facebook offers the promise of targeting, but in the end they both are volume plays.

I say promise of targeting because I have not yet met anyone who has ever bought anything from a facebook ad, which seem to be mostly cause-driven (of the Click Here to Stop Obama variety).

And it remains to be seen how users will like Aunt Mary's status being shoved down the page by a McDonald's promotion, now that businesses can buy higher placement in your newsfeed. The smarter fb gets in monetizing those eyeballs by reordering what you see in your feed, the less valuable it becomes to you.

When people are looking to buy something, to spend money, they aren't on facebook. They're on google. Which leaves pure impressions, branding, and relationship-building for fb, all things on which the ROI is not clear-cut and therefore the price is lower. Much lower.
