Rachel Bevilacqua was denied custody of her 10-year old child by a Religionist Judge. His Honor decided he had the right to tell others how to worship. It will be pleasing when “Stand up for Religious Freedom” rallies are held for something other than the American version of radical Islam’s Forced Conversions, until then they can take their fake persecution complaints & shove it
“After nearly four years and $140,000 in legal costs, the SubGenius child custody case of Rachel Bevilacqua (Reverend Magdalen) has been dismissed. The end result is an anticlimax: She has custody of her son at last, and the status quo is maintained -- except that she is officially forbidden from keeping SubGenius materials in her home, in order to protect her son from J.R. jabberwocky: The plagiarism aside, I would think it was against journalist ethics to knowingly lie or mislead. It speaks to the quality of our public discourse that we have effectively given up on that principle. It is now widespread practice that opinion pages are not held to any journalistic standards at all and that is the real issue. Dishonest propaganda is protected by the First Amendment, yes, but that doesn't mean it has to be published in the pages of the state's de-facto monopoly newspaper. Americans have allowed their public discourse to be degraded to a level so low it would have shocked their forebears, and they are tolerating it because they have bought into the illusion that there is no right or wrong any more, not truth and falsehood, only opinions. And since opinions can be bought with good money, and again Americans are mostly okay with that (because opposing that principle would be "socialism") it is the opinions of the rich that dominate virtually all debates that take place anywhere in America. And in a breath-taking trick that would make the Founders spin in their graves, that de facto totalitarianism is then even justified on constitutional grounds (thanks santhony for making that point).

If Americans don't recover the moral strength to demand honesty from their political and opinion leaders, there is little hope for the future of democracy.

Undoubtedly, it's perfectly within Panera's owners' rights to banish a free local newspaper from their entrance. It's also my right to complain about it, and take my ~$50/wk elsewhere. Santhony, it's on McCain Blvd if you want to go spend that amount there to offset what they'll lose from my family. Not sure how much Mean Gene spends there, but you may want to up it a little to cover Gene's too. Otherwise, their newspaper games is costing them. I've not heard of anyone that avoids restaurants around here because they have AR Times. Going out of the way to keep it from a coffee shop, of all places, is downright nuts, bidness wise, in my opinion.

From a picture Greg Deckelman shared with me on FB today: "I always wondered why somebody didn't do something about that. Then I realized I am somebody."

@santhony..Fox16, as is Arkansas Times, is open to public viewing because of the First Amendment. If Ben And Jerry's banned Fox News from their store I would take the same stance. It's not the Amendment rights, but the suppression of a free weekly publication that has dissenting Pantera views that baffle me the most.

While attending a Marriage Weekend, Durango and his wife, DSSW, listened to the instructor declare, 'It is essential that husbands and wives know the things that are important to each other.."

He then addressed the men, 'Can you name and describe your wife's favorite flower?'

Durango leaned over, touched dssw's arm gently, and whispered,

'Gold Medal-All-Purpose, isn't it?'

That's what the media always says when they black out a performer. Funny how it only happens to liberal messaging, like the Dixie Chicks or the AR Times. It's a good thing the internet was invented or the truth would be whatever the right-wingers who own most all the media decide it to be.

But who cares about the press? By God, I get to carry a pistol in my pocket when I go to my child's ballet recitals and that's all the freedom any American needs.

A triptych of terror in a tux, starting with . . . a Velco bathing cap? That defiant e-meter auditor's stare? The secret and perhaps obscene private gesture to a masseur in the gym at the Marriott?
I can't think about it now. I'll think about it tomorrow. After all . . . .
