That's why we have welfare. Because we must feed the people who would otherwise starve simply because they are the losers in our capitalist society.

It's OK for Scott Ford to be born into unimaginable wealth. But he cannot turn his back on the poor with the simple observation that their poverty is due to their own lack of character.

No, they're poor because they don't have money. They don't have money because it's tied up in the bank accounts of a few people. And they can't make their own money because they don't have access to the same capital, education and DNA that the people who have the money do.

Upward mobility is a myth, at least in the US. If you are born poor, you will in all likelihood die poor, as will your children. It's not something we like to think about, let alone acknowledge, because it goes against the grain of the American dream, but those are the facts.

It's due to one simple thing: Concentration of wealth. If 10% of the people own 90% of the wealth, then anyone born into the 90% who must split the 10% faces long odds of climbing past that station.

The 10% who own everything own government as well, and they use it to make more money. Thus we see policies like we have now, where the earnings on a billionaire's inherited wealth are taxed at a lower rate than a working family's wages.

Sure, we all know people who were born into poverty and made it. I'm one. But the plural of "anecdote" is not "data."

It's simple mathematics. As fewer and fewer people control more and more of the money, the rest of us have less and less hope of being one of those few.

And Saline, the Republican position is that no food is good for your long term health? Of course, that is after the hospital stay at the taxpayer's expense far in excess of what helping someone as some religions stress. Too bad there aren't any "Christians" in the current Republican Party, just Pharisees and those bankers that Jesus threw out of the temple.

Though invited, I declined. The Darlenes had our own Jubilee at Vanessa's, where we positively felt one of the crowd, what with her 70" Sony Bravia. We enjoyed the acts and critiqued everything without risk of offending monarchists.

Like Grace Jones, here. 64. Looks identical to when I was a child. Drinks the blood of virgins. Her genius? "Forget the pyrotechs and the dancers and the backup vocals. Go down to the Quid Tree, Freddie, and buy me a hula hoop. We're gonna stop the show."

She did, too. Dressed as a chorus girl from "Avatar" being swallowed by a giant mutant koi. Hula-hooped non-stop nearly five minutes whilst delivering "Slave to the Rhythm."

But the best was Tom Jones. Who's somehow becoming Wayne Newton's twin as they age in tandem. Inexplicably wearing a Nehru jacket. Belting an acoustic flamenco guitar version of "Delilah." Best not because if you closed your eyes he sounds the same but because of the cutaways to Harry, the only hunk the royals ever produced.

The Darlenes want.
