I've been working on a big project since last October studying Fort Baptist history from the beginning of time and I can say with 100% confidence....all dots connect, all dots always connect and today they connect faster and harder because everything is so much easier than it was in 1870.

There will be one state newspaper someday and all our TV & radio will be owned by one large company or several companies with big connections. Clear Channel owns most of what you hear and are much more discreet about it than Fox News but just as deadly. They're connected to Mitt because Bain Capital owns or invests in Clear Channel. I'm too damn tired to go into it, but all the dots connect and when it comes to the media words like liberal and conservative have no meaning because it's all about raking in the money at all times by any means possible.

Our populations is so filled with uninformed stupid people that it's nearly impossible to have a conversation. I hate Bush & Co. & current Republican leaders based on facts. Romney supporters hate Obama and love Mitt because they feel like it...based on no facts. Fact free people can be turned easier than a toy boat in the bathtub and the vast rightwing conspiracy caught on to this years ago and have been turning fairly nice people into idiots right & left. Like Zombies, once they're turned they'll never go back because they don't want to be educated, they stick like glue to other uninformed idiots and the whole dog pack mentality takes over.

I think we're screwed beyond fixing. If the idiots don't take over this time, they'll manage the next. Maybe we'd be smarter to give up now, let them take over and when they ruin it all......out of the chaos we can build a new America that is everything we pretend it is today. It's just so depressing......

eLwood, I have a pretty good setup on my PC with Firefox 13, Avast free anti-virus and NoScript, which stops websites from loading unless you give them permission. My XP Pro is updated to Service Pack 3 and all windows updates are installed. You'd be amazed at the huge number of websites that will try to get on your pc when you go to popular websites, even the AT blog has something named "64.13.226.234" that tries to load but NoScript blocks that. I've had maybe three viruses in the past 5 years, and they were from stuff I'd downloaded that had malware incorporated in the files. Avast now scans each and every file I get. The AV I had at the time, I'd received it as part of the software bundle on a new PC, let them get by.

Tried several times. It will come on and when the boot program begins...the comp shuts down. So, it's a mean-assed program, Security Shield.

I'll just re install. Was planning to use Windows 7 anywaz since Widnows 8 is about to come out...meaning Windows 7 should have most of bugs worked out. I back up the files I need about 3x a week, so not much is gonna be destroyed.

      Silverback

Pro-Life should mean a society provides support not just for the fetus but all the way through, pre natal and post natal care, food and shelter if needed and if you read the article Canada provides for a mandatory ONE YEAR of birth leave. It can be split six months for each spouse and the parent receives a portion of their pay while on birth leave with a guaruntee of job when they return.

That's what "pro-life" should mean rather than the fetus fetish today's Republicans have made it out to be. Canada is far away from U.S. Republican's "pro life" which should be pro-fetus. Pro-Life means having an entire program to support an expectant mother and provide her with continuing support until she (and he) are back on their feet. That's what it takes to support "life."

Republicans want their pro-life to be an anchor and tell the new mother "sink or swim."
Welcome back Vanessa, long time, no see.

I got double zapped tonight.

Downloaded a mean-assed trojan, one my WOT overlooked or perhaps I wasn't paying attention.

It's labeled "Security Shield." It's a fake security program designed by Russians to mine everything in your hard drive. No checking or cr. card info on mine, sorry boz.

But, it's a clever little trojan program, when you try to remove it the devil throws out a block or diversion to prevent you from continuing. It pops up all sorts of official looking screens warning you of this and that, even saying some of your necessary files are evil.

Reminds me of Republicans who can convince supporters to do things contrary to their necessary operating systems....like pollute your own drinking water,...or worse, pollute your ground water because "jobs will be lost if we make them clean it up."

Anyway, I used sweetie's comp to find a cure for mine. Had hers sitting next to mine and was ripping thru the steps of removing Security Shield like a surgeon going after a tumor..and then it catches on and shuts down the process. So now it won't even let me reboot my computer.

It's going to be a complete re install of Windows. No other options unless RC suggests something.

Anyways, until I get it all worked out gonna miss my buds every day. Sweeties comp will be here but I sure don't like using it, I misspell too often using this strange keyboard.

eLwood sez: Pro-Life Takes on a Different Meaning....

Pro-Life?

I am sick to death of that certain class of American citizens who proudly proclaim that they are pro-life because they obsess about the status of a fetus fermenting in some other citizen's womb.

Pro-Life is a subset of the central premise of every organized religion, that our puny H. sapiens sapiens species are at the center of the universe and were present at the beginning and will survive beyond the ending of time.

Yeah, sure.

When the fetus hits the ground and becomes an actual breathing human life, the true believers seem to lose interest. There are rankings all over the place, but this one is representative.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_count…

When it comes to actual living human life, the United States ranks 34th in infant mortality, behind Cyprus, Croatia and Cuba.

Makes you proud, dunnit?

Here's a thought-piece, which the pro-lifers will never read all the way through.

http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/ppt/nchs2010/44_Ma…

The explanation is obvious.

The fermenting fetus is just an idea, comforting warm smoke blown up the pious patriotic pants legs of the true believers. The living human babies have an annoying tendency to be poor, colored, and maybe even immigrant.

Because Obamacare will save the lives of tens or hundreds of thousands of yet unborn or already living human babies who obviously deserve to die, having chosen the wrong parents, that certain class of American citizens must rush to oppose it.

When you tell the truth to someone who wants to believe a myth, all you do is piss him off.

OK, fine.

Businesses never use taxpayer funded roads and interstates to transport goods and services. Businesses never ever use government research to alter slightly prescription drugs which are then sold on the market as 'new and improved'. Businesses would never take taxpayer money to build a technology park that will displace a few homeowners and make a few slumlords some nice pocket change. Yeah, businesses do it all buy themselves............editorials such as this are the most Un-American pieces of scribble.

I'm sticking with my outlier prediction that Warren Stephens will end up with all the marbles, based on his recent Forbes interview where he expressed his interest in further acquisitions. Hussman seems to be struggling to keep the print and home delivery operations going by charging the same price for his traditional newspaper and online-only access. That won't work in the long run. I think Stephens is just laying low, waiting for Hussman to surrender as his position becomes untenable.

Exhibit A: The new Dem-Gaz "Plus" app for iPhone is a ridiculous gimmick to sell newspapers, and it will fail. It is technically impressive to create an app that use cameras and gyroscopes for augmented reality, but people aren't going to use their device to take pictures of their newspaper to see a video on a regular basis. The Dem-Gaz has a good iPad app, but it does not support the extended content that Plus provides. In fact, you have to use an iPhone to take a picture of the iPad screen in order to see the videos. Why not just tap a button on the iPad and show it? The whole concept is absurd, and a sign of Hussman's desperation.

I am predicting that before long all newspapers in Northwest Arkansas, and West Arkansas, including the Fort Smith newspaper, will be owned by one company--and that company will be led by Hussman. The handwriting is on the wall, and I am really sad for all my friends (several) who work for the Stephens newspapers.

If you had told me 40 years ago that the publisher of a few substandard newspapers in Southwest Arkansas would end up owning almost all of the daily newspapers in the state, I would have told you that you were crazy. I thought newspapers really mattered to people, but I was wrong. If you have ever worked in journalism, you will remember that the journalism professors taught you that you had to write on a level that a 14-year-old would understand. So true--and a 14-year-old nowadays would rather watch Inside Edition or E Entertainment on TV than read a newspaper. The media audience is still comprised of mental 14-year-olds, despite the supposed level of education that we have reached, and they are not even as smart as the 14-year-olds of 50 years ago. I so cherish my years in journalism when there was still competition, and people who were seeking quality, and quality mattered. I will never advise any young person today to go into journalism. Study marketing and public relations in the College of Business instead. There are a few niches. But the future for most in the profession is pretty dreary.

In time, society will regret it also.

I assume you're speaking (VERY kindly) of Cheddars. I've been twice and it was truly abominable. I ordered chicken fried steak both times, it's my 'canary in the mine' test. Nothing to it, piece of tough cow, pounded thin, dredged in milk & flour then fried hot with white gravy and pepper. If you can't make an edible chicken fried steak then nothing on your menu will interest me.

The first time I had that failure I thought it was due to the newness of the staff so I went back and tried again. It was, if anything worse. So I scraped the crust off to look at the meat and it was EXACTLY like a piece of leather, slightly thicker. We left and I got a burger at Micky Ds.

I've never been to Big Orange, but I'll give them a try when they move to my neighborhood.
