Here's the thing. The state licenses all kinds of people for all kinds of things. Beauticians, doctors, lawyers, notaries, morticians, etc. If you are participating in a state-licensed program, the information about that program, namely, the people the state has ok'd, is PUBLIC RECORD. They are records created by a public program. Tax dollars at work. As such, they are records the public has a right to have. Afraid of being on the list? No one is making you participate in the program.

El: Thanks for updating me. That's the reason I wanted to make it clear that I'm no expert on firearms and my last experience was with Korean Conflict-era weapons. I don't think I've ever seen a Glock in person; just on TV.

I guess it just never occurred to me that a firearm would be made with no safety.

I can envision not having a hammer as I've seen hammerless revolvers and I remember seeing a small caliber hammerless automatic many years ago--more or less a woman's purse gun. But it certainly had a safety.

But with that clarified, I'd still think that if a gun had no safety, it would be prudent to carry it without a round in the chamber. So I understand the physical situation of the gun itself a little better, but I still wonder why someone who has passed training and been issued a permit would carry the weapon in an unsafe condition.

Gee whiz! If the guy got a little careless, he could accidentally shoot himself in the butt!

Butt :), that's not likely to happen, I guess.

Sky since, as you mentioned, it's been awhile, glocks (and copies) have no safety and no hammer on .9mm and .40mm semi auto pistols. A round in the chamber could be discharged with fumbling, hasty fingers. Many glock-like copies have a dual action trigger meaning a two-stage trigger pull is needed to fire it.

I think that's an excellent idea, clay, because it opens up the thread where I can champion clear pants or no pants for men in public. It's just not fair.....women go to great lengths to package their boobs for public viewing. Ugly women aren't ugly if they have a great rack and put it out there. But men.....nothing. What's the point of having a championship penis if no one knows?

I think Open Carry should be the law of the land but should also include penises. One man may feel big by showing off his big gun at the mall. This man would feel big if I could show off my big penis at the mall? And, I must add, my penis has added lives to this planet as opposed to guns which subtract lives.

In this era of showing big men to be big, let us not forget our friend the penis. Your dinky AK 47 can spew 100 bullets while my large penis spews millions of life giving spermies by god, it's a miracle flesh machine no one needs a permit for! And just imagine how big a man would feel if he could not only display his large gun but also display his large penis at the same time.....my god I'm erect at the thought!

Bring out the big guns of every type, metal & flesh and watch as America becomes great again!

Color me curious, but I wonder HOW as well as WHY this happened.

Admittedly, I'm not up on the latest firearms technology since I haven't shot anything manufactured more recent than the Korean Conflict. And I'm no expert, but I grew up with guns: rifles, shotguns, pistols--originally revolvers, but then automatics--mainly the military .45 caliber.

So here's what I'm wondering. This couldn't have been a revolver; that requires too much pressure for trigger pull-unless it is cocked. But would this guy be carrying a cocked revolver in his waistband, back pocket, or hip holster? Surely not.

And with an automatic, surely he wouldn't carry it with a round in the chamber, the hammer cocked, and the safety off. Would he?

With the hammer down, simply reaching for his wallet wouldn't set it off. With the safety on, simply reaching for his wallet wouldn't set it off. With no round in the chamber, it couldn't fire accidentally. And wouldn't he have to pull the trigger for it to fire? How did this weapon fire accidentally? And why was it in a firing condition?

What was this guy doing with his weapon in firing condition? Doesn't someone who gets a concealed carry permit have to pass a course that involves some safety training that prevents this sort of mishap?

If this is typical behavior of concealed carry permit holders who are also packing, we're all in mortal danger. I'm more likely to be fatally injured by accidental shooting than I am by a robber who demands my wallet.

IMHO

That conjured up a great mental picture. Since we're not into banning any type of firearm would folks be allowed to carry any kind they wished? Could I walk around with an M-15 in a sling over my shoulder along with my holstered .45?
