GOP Budget Doesn't Even Say the Word "Veteran"

"Do Republicans care about keeping our promise to veterans?

Looking at the recently released GOP budget, written by Rep. Paul Ryan, it's hard to see how they do. In fact, looking at the nearly 100 page document, the word "veteran" doesn't appear once. Not once.

Today is the 9th anniversary of the start of the Iraq War. Last night, I spoke with someone who served with me in Iraq during my first tour. And for the first time in almost nine years, she wanted to talk to me about an incident where she drove through an IED and a soldier was killed. It was a profound moment that shows how war and sacrifice stay with us, always. For those of us who served, in many ways, yesterday is today. And today, we read that the GOP doesn't even talk about veterans in their budget.

But, without saying the word "veteran," the budget tells us a lot about what they think about veterans. The budget calls for across the board spending freezes and cuts. If enacted, the Ryan GOP budget would cut $11 billion from veterans spending, or 13 percent from what President Obama proposes in his own plan.
....
This date is proof that blind dates are not awesome.

I'm in the ladies' loo at this seafood place on PCH, on my Galaxy, two sips into my Cosmo and already building to a faux attack of food poisoning.

This guy (calls himself Curt) claimed among other things to be a vintage car collector. Shows up in an '85 Yugo GV (technically vintage, I guess), which tells you his caste. His plastic's probably going to get rejected anyway, so it's a good thing I drove myself. But no more blind dates ever.

Paul Ryan is sort of America's blind date with the GOP, really. So again my life's just one big Cosmic Connection. Ryan's an Ayn Rand lover. Said she's the reason he got into politics. Ayn Rand vehemently rejected "faith" as the antithesis of reason so Paul's walking back that one already, barely outta the gate.

Here is what David Frum (conservative) thinks of the whole Ryan VP schmear.

"The likely script of the next [Democratic] attack ad. A woman in her later 40s, looking worried at a kitchen table. She's probably vaguely Latino; the photos on her refrigerator (kids, no dad) suggest a single mom.

"A woman's voice over. 'You've worked hard all your life. You've paid Medicare taxes for almost 30 years. But under the Republican plan, Medicare won't be there for you. Instead of Medicare as it exists now, under the Republican plan you'll get a voucher that will pay as little as half your Medicare costs when you turn 65—and as little as a quarter in your 80s. And all so that millionaires and billionaires can have a huge tax cut.'

"That ad will draw blood and will—as Henry Kissinger used to say—have the additional merit of being true."

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012…
Silver, you likely don't need this but I found this jewel over at
"Christian Nymphos Q&A"

"“Just a quick question. From reading some of your articles about “Sex toys”, there is something I would like to be made clear to me. One article I read stated that a man should not use sex toys that pleasure only him self, because it does not help create a stronger bond between the husband and wife.

1. Nothing should replace genital union. I realize that masturbating together is fun and exciting. We do it here too sometimes. However, God created our bodies to fit together.

2. It’s relatively easy for a man to orgasm…NOT SO FOR WOMEN. Think about it. When a man gets married, he is pretty much guaranteed orgasm with each act of sex (barring health issues). Allow me to be crude for a minute or two here. A man can stick his penis in almost anything and yes, I’m exaggerating. ) But honestly, men just KNOW to rub their penis back and forth for a couple of minutes and boom, there is orgasm. It can be done by hand, by his wife’s mouth/hand/anus/vagina, or even by lubing it up and thrusting between his mattress and box springs (yes, that has really happened)....

Praise go to the Lord.
Today's been a whirlwind and tonight promises to be even busier! I'm flying out the door, but had to quickly check in for my Razorbabies' reactions to Ryan -- when I caught your decidedly French, decidedly oral fixation on the Gingrichs, and speculation about their possibly angling for a talk show.

So I called Gary Knell. He and I go back to when he was with PBS.

Apparently, you're right. The Gingrichs were indeed floating a spec talk-show concept.

Gary politely declined, so America will be deprived of, "'Bite Me' with Calista and Newt," for now.

Gary also claimed Trifecta had passed. "They're not really visual. More aural."

Which rhymes with oral.

Which is where Kathy Lee went to school, had the nose bobbed and converted from Judaism.

So that's how long SHE'S been gone.

The Circle of Life. So cosmic.

Speaking of cosmic comings and goings -- and feeling more visual tonight than aural -- I'm outta here too.
There's a video here of Ryan speaking at the Randy Society---er Atlas Society in 2005. He said this among other things:

""I grew up on Ayn Rand," Ryan told the Atlas Society, a group of Rand devotees, in a 2005 speech. "That's what I tell people ... you know, everybody does their soul-searching, and trying to find out who they are and what they believe, and you learn about yourself ... I grew up reading Ayn Rand, and it taught me quite a bit about who I am and what my value systems are, and what my beliefs are."

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/11/p…

Golly! No Sermon on the Mount? Nothing from his Catholic catechism? When I was 'soul-searching' and trying to figure out who I was and what I believed, I read guys like Tillich, Camus, Reinhold Niebuhr. I can honestly say that I slogged through all three volumes of Tillich's "Systematic Theology".

I think they offer more and better information about the nature of life, why we are here, and how we should be than some old atheist reprobate.
Mittens wore his tie with rolled up shirt sleeves. Ryan no tie, but kept his coat on. The show was a phony as their promises.

I'm ok with second chances. ASU may be D1 but it is a long way from Auburn. LSU to McNeese? A good bit longer fall.

Six things you should know about Paul Ryan. You can read details here:

http://www.tnr.com/blog/plank/106029/ryan-…

1. Ryan really believes in ending Medicare as we know it.
2. Ryan really believes in ending Medicaid as we know it.
3. Ryan really pushed for privatization of Social Security.
4. Ryan really would decimate government funding, to the point it could no
longer carry on many routine operations.
5. Ryan really does want the biggest transfer of wealth, from poor and middle class to rich, in modern U.S. history.
6. Ryan really holds an extreme position on abortion rights, even relative to
other conservatives.

I'm sure most of the above is giving Gyl and others a tingle either up or down one leg or the other.
