How dare you all side with the allagations. I am a proud catholic and i trust each and every one of the priests in my parish and all over the world. People have been descriminating Catholics for as long as i can remember, so another allagation does not make a dint.

The amount of threats and abuse that catholic priests get from racist pigs in appauling. None of the accusations of child molesting priests are lies. ALL of them.

A mn of god does not cover the virgin Marys face and molest a child. Believe and trust the true faith and story not publisists and racist mothers.

Judy Block-Jones - I would have thought that what happened about 10 years ago when almost every major diocese in the U.S. was under investigation or being successfully sued would have made a dent in the evil things perpetuated by the catholic leadership. Even the major accusation by the Irish government, a highly catholic nation, has been ho hummed. What many do not understand is that the catholic church is an entrenched bureaucracy that on one hand holds the esteem and adoration of millions of people who turn a blind eye and continue to economically support its discretions. It also has a very large publicity effort worldwide that delivers the message to the faithful and the world at large; which conveniently ignores actions such as those by Bishop Finn. It is also justified by political authorities who know it can deliver votes or support for a regime. Political persuasion is perhaps one of the most salient points of the church's continued influence. Entrenched bureaucracy, vocal and economic support, successful publicity effort and political support = long term existence. Makes me wonder why anyone would enter into any organized religion...the bottom line according to all I know is that what happens to you is between you and the higher power; not a priest, preacher or any other intermediary.

The KC judge found Bishop Finn guilty of concealing and not reporting sex crimes against innocent little girls. There are many other bishops who could have sat in that court room and been found guilty also. This is a beginning of getting this horrific abuse stopped. We hope the families of Fr Ratigan's victims can feel a sense of relief, even though Finn only got a sentence of probation. We hope they can sleep a bit easier tonight.

We have come this far in protecting kids because brave victims of clergy sex abuse are speaking up and contacting police. Like Finn has now learned the hard way, it is not the church officials who should be deciding or investigating child sex crimes, that is the job for law enforcement.

Thank you to the judge for this historic guilty verdict. This is just a start for some hope for the safety of our children and the future.
The Vatican's historical reticence regarding this matter turns my stomach. This Pope is doing as little as he possibly can about the sex abuse scandal.

In 2010 he was quoted by the Belfast (Ireland) Telegraph as saying, “In the 1970s, paedophilia was theorised as something fully in conformity with man and even with children”?

http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/wor…

We can use the same logic to forgive modern slavery: Hey, it was totally acceptable not so long ago, so it's not so bad now. Give a slaver a break!

Last summer, after yet another horrific report of an investigation into the church's continuing sexual victimization of children, Ireland's Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Enda Kenny gave a blistering rebuke of the Vatican which, under this pope, frustrated efforts of Irish civil authorities to pursue priests who sexually preyed upon children and vulnerable adults.

"Today [the Catholic] church needs to be a penitent church, a church truly and deeply penitent for the horrors it perpetrated, that it hid, and that it denied - in the name of God but for the good of the institution.... [T]hrough our [Children First] legislation ... those who have been abused might take some small comfort in knowing that they belong to a nation - to a democracy - where humanity, power, rights, and responsibilities are enshrined and enacted always - always - for their good. [Ireland's laws] will always supersede canon law that have neither legitimacy nor place in the affairs of this country.
...
" And safeguarding their integrity and their innocence must be a national priority. That is why I undertook to create a Cabinet ministry for Children and Youth Affairs. The legislation 'Children First' proposes to give our children maximum protection and security without intruding on the hectic, magical business of being a child.
"Cardinal Josef Ratzinger [now Pope Benedict XVI] said, 'Standards of conduct appropriate to civil society or the workings of a democracy cannot be purely and simply applied to the Church.'
"As the Holy See prepares its considered response to the Cloyne Report, I want to make it clear, as Taoiseach, that when it comes to the protection of the children of this State, the standards of conduct which the Church deems appropriate to itself cannot and will not be applied to the workings of democracy and civil society in this republic."

Listening to it, I wanted to stand and cheer.
SS DD. Until the pope addresses this issue and others that hold the church in the stone age then it will simply be a contination of the same thing...This act simply gives rise to individuals questioning not only the Catholic Church but religion as a whole. Far too many religious organizations use religion as a political weapon, to promote hatred or violence, a means to suppress others, for personal gain, overly prothesize, becomes a power trip or some other social aspect to the detriment of well meaning church officials and members.
