Ike's memorable observation:
"Things are more like they are now than they ever were before."

However, in politics, the more things change, the more they stay the same. From 2006, during the page scandal, when Republican Congressmen were acting like Catholic priests:
"... no amount of damage control seems capable of containing the fallout. But you have to hand it to the Republicans for trying. Over the last couple days they've dusted off a well-worn line, which they never fail to trot out when things are looking particularly bleak for the GOP: "George Soros is behind this." "
http://www.motherjones.com/mojo/2006/10/wh…

For two elections in a row, Repugs have presented Presidential candidates with the charisma of a rotting potato and the political philosophy of a medieval warlord. American voters have not shown the proper fealty to the proffered pretenders to the throne. Therefore, some liberal conspiracy must have brainwashed Americans.

When conservative powerhouse mouthpieces - Drudge, NewsMax, Clear Channel, Washington Times, and Rupert Murdoch's Fox News - complain about the stranglehold "liberal media" has upon the American voters, you start laughing uncontrollably, if you have a sane mind.

This year, Repugs have blamed all the usual "liberal" bugaboos for their disastrous Presidential campaign this year. The culprits who peddle bias: The news media (and now polling companies), Saul Alinsky, unions, teachers, a recent Batman movie, Soros, ACORN, science, facts, Michael Moore, some nebulous gay agenda, the 47%, Nancy Pelosi, MoveOn, and polar ice melts. Expect their list of conniving saboteurs to lengthen for years after this election. It's never the fault of the Republicans.

For a party that preaches personal responsibility, Repugs spend their lives blaming everyone else for their own inadequacies.

“Just to stand up for a fellow AR Times friend, Monkeys with Spearguns posted that link in last night's open line, Durango.”

Sidd: Commendable of you to “stand up” for your pal. Had I spotted Monkeys’ earlier posting of the SLJ link, I would (1) not have posted it, or (2) have noted that I was posting Monkeys’ link again because I thought it was worthy of an encore.

eLwood: Learned nothing tonight about the Wall Street players’ intentional hike in gasoline prices to embarrass the president. Got only blank stares when I inquired. Nothing done, however, to discredit Obama would surprise me.

Nanc: Wish I knew what’s brought about the Hogs’ plunge. Think discipline could be severely lacking, though. Saw a pic a few weeks back of JLS surrounded by several players. One of ‘em standing directly behind Smith had two fingers sticking up behind the coach’s head — the old rabbit ears prank, as 1970s as it is.

Do you believe, for even two seconds, the player would dared have pulled that juvenile, disrespectful stunt on Bobby MF Petrino? Me, either. Player’s young ass would have been kicked immediately from Fedvul to Eudora. Maybe as far south as Tallulah.

All of that said, the Hogs will surprise some people this year. The Aggies tomorrow?

Actually not in Mena at this time but east about 6 miles in the small community of Ink. Later moved to 8th street in Mena and shortly after west of Mena about 13 miles to the Rocky community. Orval Eugene Faubus walked that 13 miles after arriving by train to Mena. The Mena Chamber of Commerce often made it clear the school was not located in Mena but in the county.

Those of us who are still clinging to the remnants of our 401(k) or similar accounts might remember that when the market bottomed out its free fall in March 2009 from the Bush Crash, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) was at 6627. This week the DJIA closed at 13437, near where it had been in November 2007. Unless you're a Repug mathematician, that could be considered an improvement during the current administration.

It may be scant satisfaction that my meager retirement supplemental nest egg is near the level it was 5 years ago, but it's better than the tin cup spare change of 4 years ago. Retired life is not as grim and I can afford to buy bread (still the store brand) at the grocery store instead of the bread with the green fur at the day-old outlet. How come no one discusses that nationally? Not my bread consumption, but the improved retirement accounts.

The Associated Press has just reported: " What first appeared to be an isolated problem in one Florida county has now spread statewide, with election officials in nine counties informing prosecutors or state election officials about questionable voter registration forms filled out on behalf of the Republican Party of Florida."

What the heck is happening there in Florida? I thought the Republicans wanted to PREVENT VOTER FRAUD, but now we find out they are actually involved in it! I'm sure this is probably taking place there in Florida because Tim (Cager) Griffin is not down there trying to help cage Democratic Party voters.

This just goes to prove innovative (and crooked) Republicans will leave no stone unturned and no law unbroken in their attempt to win this election!

We live in a state who denies climate change, for all that our cattle are dying, and your children will pay the difference.
eLwood, haven’t heard that one. Will ask dinner companions what they might know. Will report if I get back on here tonight. Goof will probably have advised correctly in the meantime.
