“Durango, my Prince, I'm getting a little concerned about this Auburn-Arkansas game.”

Mrs. STJ, my dearest:

I think you need not overly worry about the outcome of tomorrow’s game. Nobody else has had much trouble keeping the Hogs out of their end zone. I can’t imagine Auburn (at home) will. As for young Fraizer, I predict he’ll have his best day to date. He’s under fire from the faithful, knows it, wants to succeed, and will come out rested and well-prepared.

That said, the Hogs are like any wild animal that’s trapped and backed into a corner. Eventually, they’re gonna come out fighting furiously for their life. Tomorrow could be the day, but I’m not holding my breath.

NVR and other movie lovers, a quick flick review:

Saw “The Master” last night. Acting by Joaquin Phoenix and Philip Seymour Hoffman is phenomenal. Not the most-uplifting storyline one will ever see, or the easiest flick to like. Yet for some weird reason I did like it and even more so this morning after sleeping on it overnight.

“The Master” reminds of Ron Hubbard, founder of Scientology, but it’s not about him or Scientology. A situation you might begin to suspect mid-movie is pretty much confirmed near the end when the character played by PSH sings “Slow Boat to China" to JP's character. If you see this ‘un, I’d like to know what you think.

Is Laurie Taylor Masterson Lee hitched to a new husband? How many does that make in the last 5 years....I can count 3. What FK's up a kid more, a few books about with sex or their mother swapping husbands more often than most people swap cars? Has she become a female Newt? Any bets on how long Mr. Lee will stay in the saddle?

And how about that Herb Rule? His little speech on the criminal Tim Griffin is Clinton worthy in all respects. Say it and spray it, Herb! That's the way to get elected and save Arkansas and the nation from that slimly Rove butt-boy Tim Griffin.

I'm too tired to Google it tonight but a friend says that Romney used a debating technique called the Gish Gallop in the last debate. I'll look it up tomorrow, but I figure it means grab the mic early and throw out so many lies machine gun style that no one else can get a word in edgewise.....seems about right to me. So far Mitt got a 1 point bump from the debate....that's chicken feed. And bring on the fact checkers!
As to sufficient number of providers: that's anyone's call. On these pages olddoc says that practitioners will follow the money. If Mds can earn $400-800,000 yr over in the poor delta working for non profits then I suspect there will be little shortage.

I'm no expert on Medicaid, but I'm trying to ponder these questions. It's confusing.

If I understand correctly, there are two separate issues: Gov. Beebe's proposed reforms for existing Medicaid programs, and Medicaid expansion.

On the existing programs, action is obviously essential due to the projected shortfalls, so I appreciate the governor's reform efforts. But his program looks experimental, and it's not certain that health care providers will sign on with it, particularly doctors. If a critical shortage of participating doctors occurs, what is the solution? Also, the walking back of the anecdote about the patient discharged a half-day later than usual does not inspire confidence.

On the expansion, there is already a multi-year backlog of eligible cases. How does an expansion impact the people who are already entitled to coverage, but are still waiting in a long line? I expect the main bottleneck is at the funding stage, but I'm also concerned that the services cannot be adequately provided even if the funding issue is resolved. And how will the quality of service be affected?

And I'm concerned that the legislature is not being kept informed about the requests for federal funds.
The letter also suggested painting the two arches the same color as McD's golden arches and charging them for the advertising.

Wonder if Metroplan's Jim McKenzie, LR's Mark Stodola, or Pulaski Co.'s Floyd Villines can come up with a more catchy name than "Big Bland Bridge". That's got stickem!

FOLLOW: 7 11 Poll, 7 Election, 7-11, 7-11 Cups, 7-11 Election, 7-11 Poll, 7-Election, 7-Eleven, Coffee Poll, Seven-Eleven, Business News

Mitt Romney should take a big gulp -- 7-Eleven shoppers have already decided on President Obama.

According to 7-Eleven's "7-Election" poll, which allows coffee drinkers to pick a blue cup for Obama or a red one for Romney, Obama is leading with 60 percent of "votes." Romney currently has 40 percent.

President Obama has held the lead since the first day the poll opened on September 6, said Margaret Chabris, a 7-Eleven spokeswoman. That day, Obama received 57.2 percent of cups, compared to Romney's 42.8 percent.

Though the poll calls itself "unabashedly unscientific," it has never been wrong in its three-election history. Six million cups were cast for candidates in each of the past polls, according to a press release. (In contrast, the sample size for a typical Gallup poll is 1,000 adults.) ............
Our Tea Party friend, Saline, said on another thread that Rmoney would win by 100 electoral votes.

Well, as y'all know, I'm a gamblin' gal and I'll take that bet. To sweeten the pot, I'll take Obama straight up. I don't even want the spread that Saline is confidently offering.

So, what should be at stake for a peri-menopausal lesbian from Hillcrest betting against a presumably straight, geriatric man from Saline County?

Money is always good with me, although teabaggers in White Flight Land are known to be pretty tight-fisted with their Benjamins (Saline, that's a C-note).

A paid-for dinner is out because neither one of us wants to lay eyes on the other. I'm open to suggestions on what's at stake. I know Saline will jump at the chance to bet since he thinks Robme will win by 100 electoral votes.

Have Laurie and Mike split? Awwww, my heart aches hearing that because marriage is so sacred to them. What? They've both been divorced before? What? They committed adultery before marrying?

Oh, pshaw. That can't be true. Marriage is sacred! They've both said it! If we allow the damn gays to get married then...then...then...marriage will no longer be sacred. Marriage is between a man and three women. Or is it a woman and three men? I just can't keep up with teabagger logic nowadays.

Durango, my Prince, I'm getting a little concerned about this Auburn-Arkansas game. Auburn folks seem to be thinking they can't stop a Spread Offense and that young Kiehl is too immature to take advantage of the Hogs' inadequacies in the defensive secondary. Please advise.

Can't wait to hear back from Saline. I sure hope he opts for the monetary bet.
"8,500 in state get aid for feed"

Drought-struck ranches grateful.

..Calhoun, the state agriculture secretary...said livestock producers are glad to get whatever help was available...he and others wished that more aid was available....Calhoun pointed out...assistance...is coming from state funds. A federal program used for feed assistance has expired and the overall federal farm bill....has stalled in Congress."

Come November, how many of the 8,500 Arkansas farmers will go to the polls and support the political party who has made such government programs' eradication as part of their effort to reign in government to make it smaller. Any guesses? I will predict 8,000 anyway.

Rec'd my absentee ballot today, three pages. I haven't been up to date nor has the once-local paper bothered to keep us abreast of local city council candidates. I could recognize two, one I'll vote for, one I won't. there's a larger field this time around. Chickenopolis elects all city councilmen "AT LARGE," violating "one man, one vote" rule.

Precincts and wards are divided by population, not by number of registered voters. Thus to get elected you campaign in the two wards with highest registration and voter turnout, strong disadvantage to any minority person who might seek election.
