Doesn't really matter to me who they support, but they stand on those thin traffic dividers in the middle of busy intersections in Park Hill – at the crest of the hill – during rush hour traffic, inches away from passing autos.

Whatever happened to firefighters exemplifying "safety first?"

In a perfect world, police and firefighters would probably live in the cities where they work. However, these men and women risk their lives and their livelihood to protect the citizenry and maintain order. I don't think you can ask for much more commitment than that from a person.

I catch a hint of anti-union sentiment in this topic. That's mighty Republican of y'all. If ever there was a race to vote for "None of the Above," it would be the North Little Rock mayor's race. However, I don't why it's bad for organizations to endorse candidates that they feel will help their cause. It's okay when the Arkansas Times does it. It's okay when the teachers organizations do it. What's the big deal when it's the police or the firefighters?

Does Tracey support requiring NLR's police officers and firefighters to reside within the city limits among the citizens they've sworn to protect & serve, or is a commuter corp adequate to serve the folks who pay their wages?

I live in NLR and lately on every corner in the morning, various fire department employees are standing around in their Firefighters for _________ t-shirts. It makes so little impact I can't tell you who they support, only that their shirts are yellow.

Truth be told, I don't care who the firefighters support, who the police support or who anyone supports. It's my job as a voter to become informed on the candidates and make my own decision. I don't need to basis my vote on what a particular city employee group thinks anymore than I need to base it on what Fox News thinks.

Of course since we are taught from an early age that policemen are our friends and we should always trust them, many lemmings will give this endorsement some credence.

“North Little Rock police endorse Steele for mayor”

And so do the city’s firemen who are literally out on the streets in support of Steele. According to a friend who’s also a city employee over there, only six firemen live in NLR. One commutes from Texarkana, believe it or not.

Most frequent complaint I hear about Mayor Hays is that the city’s streets are in a terrible state of disrepair, that he should spend more money on fixing them than on his beloved bike trails.

Over the years, I’ve probably spent a grand total of three hours with and/or around Steele. Good first impression, but after that, oh my, oh my, oh my. It may happen, but I can’t imagine Steele in the role of NLR mayor.

Agreed, Max. Steele has done nothing to distinguish himself as worthy for public office. His priority has allows been feathering his own nest, selling ads and favors to the highest bidder.
