How many cranks admit that they are cranks? Charlie's comments on killing the occasional rebellious child are so two millennia ago.

In the interest of fairness, I provide below an exerpt from Hubbard's book. I noticed that elsewhere in the book, Hubbard blames liberals not for inventing but for ENHANCING the "white guilt of slavery," implying that the guilt is real but inexcusably exaggerated by the political opposition. At any rate, if you can overlook the bad writing, you can find some rather flattering things (partronizing platitudes, some might say) said about AfrAms. Regarding the birther movement, he offers the following:

"Are we now to think that the leaders of the black community, a group of proud people who have been toiling and demanding for centuries that they be allowed to hold their rightful place as a people in equal standing within this nation, would riot and turn the streets of this country into a bloodbath just to keep a suspected unqualified person who is black, but not one of them, in the White House? This would destroy everything the hardworking and patriotic American blacks have been working toward for centuries. There are many well-qualified and legitimate members of the black race* who have taken the proper steps to be qualified for this office, and to allow someone who has possibly stolen the White House through deception and deceit, would destroy everything those hardworking and very patriotic American blacks have been working toward for centuries." [Jon Hubbard, LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]

*Of course, the science of genetics tells us that there is no such thing as race (or, at least, racial purity)-- interbreeding ("eucegenation," I'd like to think) has succeeded in blending us too much for that concept to persist. All together, Hubbard's language strikes me as well-intentioned but ignorant, much like the rare plantation owner who really did think he was doing his slaves a service by subjecting them to living conditions that included secure food/shelter and the opportunity to hear The Good News.

      Good piece from Tolbert: http://talkbusiness.net/2012/10/there-is-n…

I wish Chairman Webb / the RPA would speak with the same strength that Jason does in this piece. I am quite sure the RPA is having a lot of regret for not fielding sane primary candidates to take these looney tunes out. It's not like their radical positions have not been out there in writing for years. A few years ago I thought that Jim Bob Duggar and Jim Holt were the fringe of my party.... these guys make Jim & Jim seem moderate. This kind of bullshit has got to piss off people like Bearden, Vickery, Kincannon, Chuck Banks, etc that have put so much blood and sweat into getting the state party where it is today...on the verge of taking the state legislature - only to see the reality of that possibility in 2012 hinging on nuts like Hubbard, Fuqua, and Mauch. I can tell you that as a Republican it makes my blood boil.

Hubbard needs to realize that if "it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, and WRITES A SELF-PUBLISHED BOOK LIKE A DUCK, it is a duck". You can hide behind all that "christian" talk but man, you are a racist and your comments are making all the major publications with the note that you are an Arkansas legislator and you are an embarrassment to the state. You alone may have cost the state a company just thinking about locating a plant here (unless they manufacture confederate flags, johnnie reb hats, white sheets, or lassos!). Not often does some actually write the words that shows what they are really like. As someone wrote a few days ago on another blog, you usually have to wait until they go senile and just blurt out their feelings (or are you there already?).

      from Talk Business (bidness) today:

"The recent statements that have come out from three Republican legislative candidates are beyond troubling. They are disgusting. They are ignorant. They are hateful.

I don’t know Charlie Fuqua. I have only met Rep. Loy Mauch and Rep. Jon Hubbard once. I don’t know their hearts, but their statements are clearly racist.

Hubbard wrote a chapter is his book of angry “letters to the editor” entitled “The Black Blessing in Disguise.” He argues that African-American were “blessed” to be brought to the United States in chains and forced into slavery. Why? Because they eventually became citizens in the United States which is the greatest nation on the earth instead of Africa.

This is racist! I repeat, THIS IS RACIST!!!

That should be obvious, but apparently Hubbard does not think so and instead released a statement blaming “Obama-Pelosi-Beebe Democrats” for attacking him. That is irrational.

It is his own words that are attacking him. Words that he not only sent in a letter to a newspaper editor, but he felt they were worthy of being put into a book to be published and sold."

http://talkbusiness.net/2012/10/there-is-n…

"words" which reflect his character, values and what type of representative he would make for us. Be interesting to see if this is what Arkansas values.

More broadly, look at the savings that slave labor would bring to a firm's cost structure. It's not surprising at all that we find it being put forth by the Tea Party as a realistic alternative to the minimum wage.

When folk like Hubbard, Mauch and Fuqua can feel comfortable spouting such views in their homes, churches, community tea parties and the confines of the Republican Party, then it says a lot about the state we live in.

No wonder it is well known that talented black and white students with progressive world are eager to leave Arkansas once they reach college. The problem is that many Arkansans will wake up this morning and go to their local church where most of the congregation have similar views, in direct contrast to what Christ Himself teaches. Reporters should be ask the state leaders of the Southern Baptist Convention, which has espoused similar views in the past, if they agree with what their members (such as Hubbard) are publicly quoting.

I guarantee you with a black president in the White House and a November election coming soon, the racist rhetoric coming from SBC pulpits is getting plenty of amens.
