Uh paperweight, there are no communists in the known world today. Totalitarian might be a better word. As far as my limited knowledge goes, there is only one being that lived on this planet approx. 2,000 years ago that was a "true communist" of course we call this being the one on which the Christian religion was founded. This name calling is kind of like the bully on the elementary playground calling others names in hopes of getting a reaction. Well, paperweight, you got a reaction from me, if only to give you my observations as it pertains to whether you remarks were factual regarding the individual in question. Just remember when you don't like what I write -- those words came from you not anyone else.

Uh Eureka, which republicans are you talking about???There are the almost nonexistent liberal and moderate republicans, then there are a few that still a few that believe in factual findings with valid evidence to support said findings. Then, the overwhelming majority as portrayed by themselves and proud of it, folks who don't see the necessity for anything factual. They just blindly believe what they are told and how it will help them and the country. Of course if you happen to be within that narrow range of the upper 1%, then you're fine. Hey!! did you guys hide those programmers on Wall Street that were directed to bundle all that junk that was a big portion of the cause of the recession???

Look no further than Tennessee for repressive laws against the LGBT community and efforts at voter suppression in general. This is what Arkansas will see with a GOP majority.

      My old example:
How a democrat negotiates with a republican:

A republican proposes:
"To maintain the system of capitalism that ensures our freedom we must have a secure workforce. Therefore, all workers must be chained to their workplace and pay for their own chains."

The democrat counters with:
"The government will pay a portion of the cost for the chains on a sliding scale based on income."

The republican grudgingly agrees but demands that the employer receive a tax credit for depreciation to the facility caused by the chains.

The democrat sends out a news release to his constituents that he stood up for the American workers.

The republican sends out a news release condemning the democrats' wild spending of taxpayers' dollars.

At times I say to myself....why fight it....let the Republicans take over and in a few years the non-informed voters will realize they've made a horrible mistake and then they'll straighten up and fly right. But once the Moneypublicans take over will there be a next time to exercise our voting rights? That's what worries me.

For the 111th time, it's a matter of brain wiring. It's brain wiring that causes Republicans to goose-step together easily. And it's brain wiring that makes Democratic thought so diverse. Those goose-stepping together are always more powerful than those looking off in a million different directions.

I'm not very smart but it didn't take me but a few days to figure out there's no compromising with today's Republicans. It WILL be their way or no way. Every time Obama extended his hand across the isle he drew back a bloody stub. The same will happen in Arkansas once Beebe is gone and the R's take over our legislature. If you think our legislature has been nutty and ineffective before....you ain't seen nothing yet.

Max's threads about the racist Nazis running in this election is about all you need to know about Arkansas Republican leaders. They'll take us back to 1860 the minute they have consolidated the power. They'll bring back the glory days of white men and woe unto everyone else. Jim Crow is warming up in the bullpen as I type. Paul Van Dalsem is smiling from the grave. Remember The Alamo will be the next thing my hispanic neighbors hear. Most of all our schools will suffer and no amount of Scholarship Money will be able to reverse the move backwards to the 19th century of Arkansans starving on the same old rocky piece of earth that starved their grand pappy.

I'm waiting to see the effects of Pulpit Freedom Sunday, supposedly going on today. Adding to the dislike of black skin that's normal in Arkansas, today preachers will be informing their flock that God wants Republicans in office because only Republicans love them a heap 'o Jesus. And if we want to stay firmly in 48th spot on all shit lists we better vote Republican lest we lose the favors God has already bestowed on Arkansas, though except for beautiful country, I'm not sure what those favors might be.

The Internet Tubes have exposed how stupid Americans are and it's just almost too sad to fathom. We're stupid to the point of being ungovernable. We're mean to the point that the rest of the world may come after us. Our compassion at best reaches to the edge of our property line, at worst to the end of our own nose. No one exhibits I GOT MINE--FK YOU like a Republican. Let them take over at your own peril. The Bain-ing of America will trickle down to the smallest little crossroad in Arkansas and you won't like it. But Republican Party on, Garth! And suffer ye little children......indeed.

I find a lot of the chatter from "moderate" Republicans here in the past several days grimly funny. Reminds me of similar chatter I used to hear as a child about "good" Klansmen. You know, the kind who were in the Klan primarily to uphold the grand old traditions, states' rights, help poor widows, assure that law prevailed in lawless times.

Those kinds of "good" Klansmen.

I have heard similarly empty and unconvincing talk from a few Germans of the Nazi period who dare to talk openly and honestly about what happened in their nation during those dark years. Talk about "good" SS men who weren't really in the SS for nasty ideological reasons, but due to patriotism and the desire to strengthen the nation.

Give me a break. Anyone who votes Republican right now knows precisely what he/she is facilitating. As Verla says, there is not a middle road in this election.

And the Republican party has long since exited the middle. The attempt of some Republicans to pretend that their party continues to contain moderates and espouse moderate positions is patently absurd and about as convincing as talk about nice, upstanding Klansmen and SS men.

Sadly, the Democratic Party is not so ideologically diverse anymore, but they're trying to keep up the illusion. The national convention had a thousand more delegates this year, but no diversity of thought was tolerated. If a challenger to the incumbent managed to win enough primary votes to earn a few delegates, the rules were trashed in order to stage a 100% unanimous roll call vote for television. The illusion was almost dispelled during the unannounced vote to rush through some last-minute changes the platform. They tried three voice votes, and the situation was getting embarrassing, so they just declared it passed anyway without determining a clear majority.

It used to be a true big-tent coalition party between business and labor. Now the business wing of the party has mostly been purged out, or dying out through attrition- except in Hollywood.

The days of your father political party are over. Both sides of the political aisle has strayed from 2 simple things.
Do the right thing. Always. Not just when it is politically appropriate.
Keep plugged in with your constituents, not the lobbyist or other rich blowhards.

Too many men have become corrupted by power. Your reason for serving is to voice your districts and your concerns, and then do something about it.
