I can't find the part of the Eat Arkansas commenting rule book that says you can't plug your own work in a thread -- especially if someone expresses a clear wish to see your work.

Oh, wait -- there is no rule book for commenting on blogs!

So I guess I'll go ahead and do this: Hi, I'm Eric Francis, and I'm a freelance writer who has written stories from all over the state and I'd be happy to help you run through your freelance budget and make your readers very happy. You can find my thoroughly inadequate website at DogtownWriter.com, or look me up at Facebook.com/DogtownWriter.

I also recently wrote the forward to a truly fantastic book, "Arkansas Pie," by the immensely talented Kat Robinson. If you're reading (or writing for) this blog, you owe here a debt of gratitude because she started it. If you like pie, or Arkansas, or any combination of the two, you should buy her book. Buy several and make everyone on your Christmas list happy! That's what I'm doing.

So, there's two utterly shameless plugs completely unrelated to this thread. If that bugs you... well, bless your cotton pickin' heart.

My apologies, Kevin. You are absolutely right.

Look, folks. I've seen a lot of fantastic work on this blog in the past few months. I've seen a lot of topics touched upon that I would likely not have covered (especially some of the Hillcrest Artisan Meats pieces and anything concerning alcohol) and a few that have been downright brilliant. I drop in when I can to check out things and learn something new.

However, I have also stayed away because of negative comments. I didn't just write about burgers and pies; I covered as much of the state as I could. I got out and did a whole lot of driving and eating that frankly, wasn't required but was decently received outside of Central Arkansas. I populated a good deal of the database the Times has on restaurants in the state with content and photography, and even after I left I have continued to funnel stories to blog contributors. I have even came to the defense of certain blog writers.

I apologize if you felt I was not being appreciative enough of the work Daniel, Michael, Cheree and the rest of the Times staff continue to do, Kevin. I was simply giving an update on what I happen to be doing.

@Kat I am a fan of your work and in my short time in LR, realize how much you've done for the food community here. I appreciate that and the help you've given me with the food scene. But your comment in response to Cecil's comment is a bit off putting. Rather than throw a few words of support for these current talented writers for EA, you take the opportunity to do some self-promotion. Not cool.

I am up to my ears in pie, Cecil. I really do miss writing for Eat Arkansas, but I now have three blogs that I'm handling in addition to the state job. Feel free to check them out...

www.tiedyetravels.com -- Tie Dye Travels, which you already know.
www.ArkansasPie.com -- Arkansas Pie, the companion blog for the book.

and, come Thursday:

www.TravelArkansas.com -- Travel Arkansas, the Arkansas blog put together by the Department of Tourism's crack staff of writers and photographers. We'll be accepting guest posts, too.

Noticed Pho Thanh My was empty when I passed by today, but I cannot recall whether they're open on Tuesdays for lunch.

Carry on.

@sammy - there are some handwritten additions on label stickers that have been taped onto the menus. One of those is where you will find "char-grilled sandwich, chicken or pork $4.95" (if memory serves)

Yes, it is Pho Thanh My, not Tranh (looking at the to-go menu I grabbed on Friday).

Everyone makes spelling or grammatical errors from time-to-time. I (personally) won't be holding it against you. *shrug*

After me blowing out a tire on Friday afternoon (and my taller half coming to rescue me with spare-puttings-ons and portable compressor), we stopped for some Asian comfort food before going home. We split a pork banh mi and then he tried a bun (vermicelli) bowl in lieu of our normal pho orders.

Unlike your experience, the meat was a bit skimpy. To be sure in the future I will probably just order extra meat, that stuff is so good if I have too much I will just eat it on the side (mmmmm). However, all of the other pieces of the sandwich were excellent, including the bread. Would love to know where they are sourcing those buns (or if they happen to make baking in house? Hmm). The noodle bowl was also very good, according to how fast it disappeared.
