Way too much frosting, way too sweet (but I am not a huge dessert person; pass me another entree), and flavors not at all engaging to me. The mojito flavor cupcake tasted like Rose's Lime cordial had been solidified for the frosting.

Cupcakes ain't going anywhere. Small portion desserts are here to stay. And let us not forget...it's cake.

Roberts...no way I'm supporting a local business over a franchise any day. If the local business sucks and the chain is good, the chain is getting my business. Now, yes...if the local business is great and so is the chain...I'm all about the lb.

Be that as it may, I will support a true local business over a franchise any day. Gigi's uses too much frosting anyway.

Gigi's is a family owned franchise company that started with one woman's dream(Gigi). Little Rock is locally owned by people who care about the community and are thankful that Gigi paved the way for them to open a small business. I think Gigi's Cupcakes are great.

I prefer supporting local. Sugar Shack, Brown Sugar, and yes, Cupcakes on Kavanaugh (or On the Ridge) will get my business over a chain any day. A lot of us really love Little Rock and all its wonderful local offerings.

I happen to like Gigi's too, so I guess I am also in the minority. I have eaten at their locations in Nashville, Charlotte & now in Little Rock, and I find the flavor of their cake highly superior to that of Cupcakes on Kavannaugh. Their cupcakes are dry, while the cupcakes I've always had at Gigi's have been really moist and delicious.

I do find the frosting to be ridiculously excessive, but it's good frosting. I just remove half of it and happily eat my cupcake.

You can get anything in the case or menu for breakfast at Community Bakery (pretty sure they've made me a caprese before noon before).

Hillcrest Famers Market will indeed be set-up year-round, inside the gym for inclement weather.

Guess I should try Mylo's baked goods, but I got a bit sour when trying their coffee (it's Westrock, hoory for a local roaster but Guillermo's would be far superior).

Totally with you on French macarons and fancy donuts. For the mean-time I have found Rosalia's macarons to be good.

@jennifer, Hillcrest Farmers Market is supposed to be year round. Mylo is still operating there and they've got a few new great items since I wrote the review. But I had no idea you could get creme brulee for breakfast at Community. I'm so there.

Mylo is one I need to check out. I guess the Bernice Garden farmer's markets are done for the season, but I can still catch them at the Hillcrest market, right?

honestly, for the most part, I'm an old-school Community Bakery girl. creme brulee for breakfast? with a big ol' cup of Bourbon Street blend? hell yeah!

I think I have pretty much tried them all at this point. Obviously, I dig cupcakes, but I feel that there are so many exciting things going on in the baking world these days that cupcakes a bit of an easy, crowd-pleasing, cop-out. I'm impressed with Mylo Coffee, Sweet Love, and Sugar Shack because they are really doing original things. I would still love to see a great macaron place hit Little Rock or an upscale donut joint like Doughnut Plant in NYC, Gourdoughs in Austin, or Dynamo in SF.

@cecil, That's probably it for me when it comes to cupcakes. I am getting a little burned out on cupcakes myself, but I figured this was somewhat significant figuring it is the first cupcake chain to hit Little Rock and one of the biggest nationally. Regardless, no more cupcakes, pies, or burgers from me for the rest of the year. Promise. If there is something you'd like to hear more about, let me know, and I'd be happy dig some stuff up and reveiw them.
