Open admission was the hallmark of the community college system when it started. Obviously it needed to be tweeked a bit.

All of PTC's general ed courses transfer. The AA degree transfers as well.

I would think another goal that should be there would be that their academic course credits be transferable to any other college in Arkansas if they aren't already. I would exclude the certificate courses and thecareer courses. That would make them a junior college as well as a trade and training school.

A lot of PTC's students are not traditional fresh out of high school students any way.

Nobody knows what it's like in public schools, especially in Little Rock, unless you've been through it.

Saftey is a constant concern. Some new teachers quit out of fear. Other teachers are afraid to turn their backs on some students. Bullying is rampant against students and teachers. Trouble students are no longer removed from lrsd schools and sent to alternative learning places. Instead they are kept in the high school and dealt with there, even though they've threatened teachers and students.

The "hearing board" comprised of two African American men with an axe to grind toward building level educators constantly return dangerous students to schools. Why is there not a woman on this board? Why is there not a hispanic, asian, or gay person?

Teachers in LRSD are not allowed to fail more than 16 or 19% of their students (can't remember which number) EVEN if their students deserve the grade. "Pass'em on," the administration says...

I have 5 friends who teach in these schools and they want to teach. But who can teach in such conditions?

Act 1184 of 2011 is forcing two-year colleges to reexamine their admission standards. You would be amazed if you really knew how many students are graduating high school under-prepared for basic skills.

The talk in the legislature has shifted to having colleges go into high school and teach reading and writing to prepare students for college work. Yes, that's right. Taxpayers are paying for high school teachers but they want college instructors to go into the high schools to re-teach the same material because the high school teachers aren't doing a good enough job.
Some folks are not good test takers. I managed to earn 19 credit hours taking KLEP tests, but tried for 7 others and failed. One day I was so nervous before the test, that I asked the young man next to me what our zip code was. "I don't know," he said. "I don't live here." So maybe 6 on the ACT for showing up is well earned.
