The problem is the old "Democratic" power structure is used to being able to phone it in during the Solid South Dixiecrat era. Too many of the Old Guard Democrats of a certain age didn't vote for Obama either in May or last night. They do need to get the hell out of the way.

And just in case anybody, including Mike Huckabee, thinks your former Governor is still either politically relevant or even sane, NY Mag reports that he gifted FOX with the following affirmation of hateful hickdom disguised as persecuted "religious values."

"Later, plugging the religious vote, Mike Huckabee wasn't so sure. 'Chick-fil-A day was dress rehearsal for today,' he said. 'I still think Mitt Romney wins when it's all over.'"

Now that election season's over, how much longer will Huckabee remain a viable "political commentator?"
But of course!

In an election year when pundit after pundit saluted the obvious--that the GOP had to win the Presidency or else (and many, including Beltway Insiders, were convinced Republicans would stop at NOTHING to do so)--The Natural State embraces the Left Behinds (and not in a Rapturous way).

As NY Magazine (among many) put it:

"2012 may have been the last chance to enact an undiluted conservative agenda. The electorate is driving steadily leftward, with the oldest voters representing the GOP’s strongest constituency, and the youngest voters its weakest. Every four years, a new 18-22 year old cohort arrives that is more liberal than the one that has died off in the interim."

http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2012/11/republicans-bet-everything-and-obama-won-it-all.html

Name the issue: universal health care, equitable taxation, improving public education, women's right to choose, contraception, stem-cell research, separation of church and state, same-sex equality, legalization of marijuana, on and on and on . . . Arkansas in toto, Dorothy, is against it.

There was a moment, with the Clintons, when Arkansas showed signs of becoming other than a dismissed national laughingstock. But the latest bids for attention from your Three Stooges (not to mention the long tragic travesty of WM3) have reclaimed Arkansas's Who-Cares? status in America's leading innovative centers of commerce and social advancement.

The living majority in America has moved on.

True to itself as ever, despite pockets of progressives, by turning to the GOP at just this juncture, Arkansas affirms all the qualities that have cemented its near-to-last position for 179 years.

The Natural State's now the Trifecta Entertainment of the South.
Miss Madkins has obviously never needed two serious hip operations like my daughter. Hayden called me tonight to make sure Obama's re-election was true. She has no tv and has to drive down to a little coffee shop in Fawnskin to access their wifi.

She hasn't been paying much attention to politics beyond getting her absentee ballot in. She heard something a week or so ago about Rmoney being up in the polls and wondered what would happen to Obamacare if Rmoney won. She was grateful that it was available to her for her operations. Without it, BlueCross would have cancelled her after the first operation and she would have been uninsurable.

Miss Madkins is very young. She needs to walk a lot of miles in other people's shoes before she makes such a pronouncement about health care.

Arkansas democrats are not fired up and ready to go. We need to be. The national election has proven that money can't beat grass roots organizing and hard work. We need to take back the legislature one precinct at a time.

It's a new day out there and if the old democratic power structure in this state can't get fired up, then they need to move over and let a new generation take over.
