If you have time, go over to Pierce's place. He's got 25 posts in 140 words or less from people who voted and how it felt. It's a good antidote to all the end times hand wringing from the nutters.
What difference does it make whether the Republicans have a small or large majorities in the Arkansas Legislature? It only takes a simple majority in Arkansas to over-ride a governor's veto. I'd say they got what they wanted, even after the 3 racists were defeated.

Cook mentioned that Obama was dragging Democrats down but the Republicans did no better than get 6 more seats in the House from the Democrats and 6 in the Senate. Wait a minute!!! Isn't Obama still around for another 4 years. That means we may have major gains again in two years. Am I figuring that out right?

I remember watching the Dallas New York Giant game the other day and the Cowboys were down 24 to nothing and came back and lost by 4 in the last seconds. I felt much better about the team but the fact remains they lost and now Dallas has a losing record.

The DPA spent tons of money on analytics, but I don't much evidence that it helped. Instead, The Three Stooges reports resulted in three Democratic victories. That information was more useful and timely.

And in case you're thinking about GP's rail access out of Crossett, they abandoned one of the three rail lines out of Crossett (Ashley, Drew & Northern) in 1995 and sold the other two (Fordyce & Princeton to Fordyce and Arkansas, Louisiana & Mississippi, known before 1991 as Arkansas & Louisiana Missouri, to Monroe) in 2004. Don't be surprised if one (or both) of these lines eventually shuts down as the Koches switch to less-efficient trucks for shipping GP products out of Crossett.

The Koches forgot to mention they "lost" on Issue 1--that is, IF you believe their pre-election rhetoric. But then I suspect they were more interested in using twisted rhetoric (more aimed at the abandoned diesel-tax bonds than Issue 1) to take control of the legislature than actually defeating Issue 1.

I think the Koches were really FOR Issue 1 because (a) a big chunk of the money is going to high-profile GOP-backed projects in NWA and (b) it will widen US 82 & 425 from Crossett to Louisiana so their Georgia-Pacific trucks will have a four-lane road to I-20 (US 425 is already four lanes in Louisiana). So essentially the Koches got what they wanted--control of the legislature AND tax-funded improvements to benefit them. (Let's not forget Issue 1 will also widen I-30 downtown, I-630 from I-430 to University, and popular roads for drivers from Cabot, Conway & Hot Springs.)

Even if the Koches really DID oppose it, to have any real anti-Issue 1 campaign they would have had to create a "ballot question committee" with disclosure requirements they did NOT want. Maine's BQC disclosure law, similar to Arkansas', has survived a post-Citizens United challenge based on their 2009 same-sex-marriage vote; the U.S. Supreme Court recently turned down an appeal from the anti-SSM group that violated the law in 2009. (That may have been a big reason why Maine voted for SSM yesterday.)

Cheer up! I think by the end of Obama's 2nd term the Koch brothers will have faded away and Teresa Oelke will be forced to make a living with her hands, not by laying on her back.

The Koch & Adelsons took a major beating last night. Helping to ruin Arkansas is mighty small chump change that will not salve their wounds. It must feel like finding a penny on the sidewalk to them. I laugh & laugh at them today.

I don't expect Arkansas to become the next Wisconsin...we're too fat & lazy to do that. Our dim voters aren't crazy, they're just too lazy to become informed and too churched up to think for themselves. So while the Koch brothers got a 2 dollar return on their millions invested, I think we'll be OK though it won't be fun for the next 2 years.

We can ease our troubled minds with back to back episodes of Honey Boo Boo & a few extra bags of Family Size potato chips and in 2003 (in Arkansas voter years) we'll kick the bastids out and go back to our endless quest for the 47th spot on all the bad lists.
