Since I see little to no problems as to what NLR has developed to today, then naturally 1) I see Joe as partly responsible for that and 2) would want to know what Steele would do to continue the parts of cities priorities that I think are important.

Where Steele makes me suspicious is he's not answered my questions. I have no basis as to his past performance as a demonstration of his priorities. I know NLR schools were not even on his radar before he started campaining - so. At least I know where Joe's priorities are because of his past performance in direct support of the city.

You guys can argue about Steele being greedy, self serving, etc. Both candidates are this way. The difference is that Steele is winning the campaign. Joe Smith doesn't like politics and it shows. He isn't out meeting with the people, standing on corners waiving to cars, at NLRHS football games, etc. He may have more money, but doesn't have the will to campaign or thinks he is above that. I think your next mayor is Steele, unless the Joe supporters come out.

Max, You won't hear from Steele if you were ever less than 100% glowing about him.

I do not feel Steele will be responsive to NLR residents that don't first pay him homage. I had challenged him with questions on his facebook site on how he feels about specific issues from Bus transportation, to pedestrian safety to cyclists safety. Never did I get a response from him. I poised the same question to other candidates and only heard back from Joe and Clinton. (Clinton had the most detailed response and per the bus transportation he suggested using idle church buses. Novel idea. The subject of having dependable regular scheduled service, and paying for liability insurance, enforcing DoT limitation on driver rest period and drug testing came to mind - but a novel idea nonetheless).

Steele never paid due attention to NLR public schools until he needed to for his election. All his STAND foundation programs have for at least the past two years gone to the benefit of the LR public schools. Just in the past few months his foundation held a HS jobs forum in LR and it did not include o-n-e school from NLR. I was told by a volunteer it was because "Tracy has someone else doing that work". No - it's Steele's foundation and he gets paid by the foundation so he must have some responsibility in the foundation. One of those responsibilities should have been to include a NLR school - for his sake if not for the school's.

I asked the volunteer what he did specifically for NLR as a state law maker - 'well he got money for the parks" .... and? Shoot, a city council member can do that with a grant application. So, still I don't know what he's done for NLR in his years as a lawmaker representing the area of NLR.

I lived in Dogtown when I lived in the Little Rock area a half-century ago, Casey Laman was mayor, and he was always entertaining. The very idea that a black man could be in contention to be Mayor would have been unbelievable back then. I am not going to comment about the previous poster's allegations against Casey, but I do remember the Checkmate Club. Even had a few drinks there. I respect Max's evaluations of Tracy Steele. They seem to jibe with the opinion I have formed from reading about him for years.

      Amen, again Sound.
Until Pat Hayes, The NLR Mayor's office was a cess pool of criminal behavior.
I go all the way back to Casey Laman. [?]

Remember Joe Calva and the Chechmate Club?

Joe operated as bookie when Laman was mayor. He personally told me he was paying $1000.00 per month to the mayor's office.

When Laman threw him under the bus, he spent the next 3 yrs. in Honduras

Make no mistake. This will be just as bad, if not worse.
I lived in NLR most of my life. Jerry Jones was a neighbor and a high school class mate.
This is really sad.

Back in early 2005 Senator Tracy Steele sold out to Deltic Timber and voted in favor of stripping Central Arkansas Water of its only tool to protect Lake Maumelle- the power of eminent domain. Lake Maumelle is the primary, and very high quality, drinking water supply for ~400,000 central Arkansans.

Fortunately, the House, under then sound leadership, drove a stake in the heart of that awful bill. But by then Steele had already sold his soul to the devil.

Joe Smith is going to have to actually campaign in the runoff. He was lazy prior to the general election and it showed. However, had Mark Clinton or John Parker not run, Joe would have received most of those votes and would have probably won by 2-3% points. The elitist attitude is going to have to go away until after the runoff is over. If it continues, then Steele will be the next mayor.
