I read an article today that said the Republicans believed their own propaganda, and that is why they were shell-shocked when Obama won. Can you imagine a campaign that takes all its news from Fox, and all its polls from friendly pollsters? That really is amateurish, despite all the money they had to spend.

I mean it's not like he hasn't had enough time to figure this out, it's been public knowledge for years. But I shouldn't be surprised, too many of these folk believe implicitly what they are told to believe and we'd better not confuse them with reality.

There's been talk about how the attempts at voter suppression resulted in a backlash. Last night I was thinking - hoping - that two years from now there will be a backlash to what the Kochs have achieved in Arkansas. Unfortunately Arkansas has more than its share of folks who would rather deny fact than question their belief system. The democrats need to find a way of framing the truth in a manner palatable to the religionists.

But then I'm not even much good at responding to the facebook posts from Arkansas friends who drink the kool aid. I've got a cousin with three girls who I've watched grow up inside the constraints of of an almost cult-like upbringing. They are all good people. But like the Republican party they have purposefully isolated themselves to the point that reality simply does not register. (Karl Rove anyone?) And I am filled with wonderment to see how those girls make their way about the secular world and while I find them easily identifiable simply by their dress and style, I still know that they participate in that world without being of it.

It reminds me of when I was 14 or 15 and hustled off to a tent revival to see my uncle saved and ended up mingling with a young lady my same age, discussing sex with our respective boyfriends in their vehicles.

How do you get through to them? Because there can't be a backlash without the truth and the truth is what they are often isolating themselves from?

Geesh Outlier, did Frum ever nail it! If anyone didn't watch that clip you should:

"The problems with Republican leaders is that they are cowards."

My friends at the Fayetteville Freethinkers forum did some research a few years ago into the "conservative entertainment complex" and found so many religio-conservative groups were simply set up to fleece the gullible and provide themselves with lucre.

I must admit, I was tempted for awhile. Hell, it's easy money. The bait is so well-defined and all you need is a webpage and p.o. box. The rhetoric has been written so often that one would only need to skim the cream and use it. Maybe set up a think-tank look-alike in NWA. Bring in some highly visible rwing persons mixed with religio-conservatives and build a mighty database. There still maybe room for it as anti-n*gger in White House flames are roaring hot these days across the South. But, do t-bagging fundamentalists have any money?

      A comment on another blog:

"My takeaway after reading all of the delicious schadenfreude conservative postmortems is the dawning reality that they lost not just the election fair and square, but the argument. There’s no real place to go for them now, because they didn’t lose with Gore style shenanigans that would give them the victim mentality they’re so good at exploiting. Obama ran on pro-choice, gay marriage, tax increases and healthcare, so people knew what they were voting for, and just told all the old white men, you’re not the boss of me."

And Pierce puts it in historical perspective. (I can't recommend his essay enough.)
Good analysis from David Frum and others on Morning Joe.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036789/ns/msn…

Frum basically says the Repub party has catered so much to their base (the Southern
Strategy) that they have lost their ability to appeal to independent voters. Frum also acknowledges that all the pundits and talk show hosts are doing fine financially again. But 80% of the population is still suffering from economic uncertainty.

Two quotes from Frum:

"Republicans have been fleeced and exploited and lied to by a conservative entertainment complex"

"The donors and activists are so mistaken about the nature of the problem the country faces."
